:blob5: How would you like having your food jumping all over you from every direction?? :blob8: Breyas hates food that climbs on him, so I refridgerate all of his crickets. I gut-load them in the cricket keeper for a couple of days first, and then just keep a bunch in the fridge all the time. I used to feed him in a separtate container, but he outgrew it... and then he outgrew the bigger one...you get the idea! He's grown at least 13" since I got him last September!

Now--mealworms. Sorry, you won't like this (I didn't either!) They can't be used as a staple. They don't provide the nutrition these guys need and they can cause serious impactions. If your BD is filling up on mealies, no wonder he won't eat crickets! I told my daughter that the worms are Breyas' "chocolate icecream," good for dessert, but he can't live off them. In fact, I've taken him completely off meal- or super-worms for a few days because he almost became impacted from too many supers one day last week. I'm giving his system time to recover before reintroducing them as an occassional snack.

Beardies are just like us: our favorite foods are usually not the best for our bodies, either! :banghead:

I have definitely not been given him mealworms as a staple..he's only eaten 9...ever....all of which were in the last two days but I have non left so he won't be getting them again for awhile.

He won't even eat crickets that are practically motionless...I chilled them out pretty good then placed them right in front of him in his viv...he won't touch them..want's nothing to do with crickets at all..whether jumping all over or practically motionless in front of him....

Any suggestions on how to get him to eat...or why he won't eat?

Have you tried dangling the chilled crickets by a leg or antenna in front of him? Feeder tweezers work great for this. Breyas sometimes thinks that the tweezers are the food! I also some times shake the dish a little. I've heard that there is a vibrating dish that can make the crickets look like they're moving. One of the "Lizard People" at my pet store suggested (gulp) pulling off the back legs of the crickets, but I couldn't do that one!

Some days Breyas gulps down a couple of dozen crickets at a time, some days it's hard to get him to eat one. They DO like to drive us crazy, don't they!

We have a picky eater too... she ate crickets when she was little little now she wont touch them unless i pull off all the legs :puke: So we ordered her some Phoenix worms she loves them but will still only eat a few at a time... :banghead: <-- thats me everyday wondering what she will eat.

Well i'm definitely not pulling the legs off them..thats a little....sick in the head! haha

He won't touch them if I dangle them..he just looks at me with this glare that I know means "if you don't get that cricket out of my face I'm gonna make you wish you were dead"

He seems to be eating his salad so I just threw in a bunch of motionless crickets in there.hopefully trick him into eating them.

I hate to admit because it is gross but pulling the legs off does help so if you have it in you then it might work.

Riddle me this..riddle me that...do superworms/hornworms/butterworms make a good staple?

Someone just said I could try those..and I know for sure that Godzilla loves worms...but are they actually a good staple or was I mis-informed????????

I just tried to dangle a legless cricket in front of him..he just closed his eyes and moved his head away...and he's looking fairly skinny!

Ive always been told Silkworms are a good staple... but they are hard to find (also told they stink pretty bad). But i have found them online ... you may want to google "feeder worms" or "silkworms" .... hope that helps.

Supers can be used as a staple for beardies over 16 inches yes and silks and butters as well although I would recommend mixing the variety so that they dont get tired of them and so you have a well balanced diet for them.

Alright well tomorrow I will score a big wopping bag of silks and butter worms....same deal as crickets right?

Is there a certain quantity I should feed him?

Same deal...as many as he wants in 15 minutes. If you ever intro supers then those must be intorduced slowly to make sure he can handle them initially.

Ok so this really has no bearing at all on anything in here..but..Godzilla is jokes!!

I was just misting him with a water bottle and he was sitting there licking his lips and sticking his head up in the air like a dog does when you rub the underside of their neck haha...total jokes...

One of my beardies used to freak out if i put too many bugs in at a time, so i would use just a few at a time just giving her more as she ate them. Also she was prone to enjoying being hand fed, eventually she got the message they werent going to eat her. Also i've found that a bribe with the odd waxworm would encourage her. even now i'll stick an odd one in their salad to get them interested. Good luck Julie

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
