Phoenix worms?

Hey no problem! I did not know that you were on both forums, but maybe I have helped a little bit huh?
You know, if you are lucky to find some superworms, you should start breeding them so you will have good quality feeders & wont have to bother with always trying to find them.
I would not feed supers to your dragon until he is around 15-16 inches, & when you begin, start slowly only allowing him 3-4 every 2-3 days just to make sure that he is digesting them. They usually don't have any problems with them unless they are fed them too early. So it wont be too long until you can start feeding him supers.
The ARK is a nice Aussie site. Rick is really nice there.

Well, I've sourced some superworms by now, and Sam is eating and digesting them fine. I was wondering if later on, once he is close to fully grown and the chitin digestion isnt so much of a problem, I could use these as a staple? It's very cheap to get them, and Sam goes crazy for them.

Hello James,

Yes, you can use superworms as a staple. They are a good ratio of fat to protein & most adults normally do not have any problems with them. I would still throw in some other feeders from time to time for variety. Superworms have less chitin than mealworms do, so they are not as much of a problem with impaction unless you overfeed on them for too small of a dragon.
I would keep the total number of superworms to around 25, to no more than 30 per week as they are very balanced & filling so that will be all he needs along with greens & veggies to maintain his weight beautifully.
I am happy to hear that Sam is doing well & enjoying his supers then!

So moving between these gives him plenty of varity and I can always catch him a bunch from the long grass - same things thou

He sent a hypo/white, reduced scale and rick male to my friend in brisbane i have a reduced scale which i gave to him also so he can breed kirby and Is together

Yes you can get Phoenix worms in Australia. We are 2 weeks from selling them on a commercial scale. We will also be posting Australia wide. These have been fed an Organic mixed Diet to stabalise protein, calcium and other nutrients needed in Bearded Dragons and other reptiles diet

Of course in nature they don't eat only that small selection of feeders available! But if you do have axess to their natural habitats, why don't you collect insects your own if you can? You have vast unpolluted areas, and due to relatively small reptile-keeping population it would be easier to contact specialists to inquire about their wild diet. It could be helpful for all of us, not only for those living in Australia, as we could find equivalents.
Phoenix worms are a nearly cosmopolitan species, I don't know though if it is endemic in Australia. You could search for them by the name of black soldier fly larvae in shops about composting. Then you can make a compost pile or container - depending on your space - and have an endless supply.
ps. Surely you have earthworms as well. Are wood roaches sold outside Australia?

Sorry, I know this is a late reply, but there is a shop in Victoria called Amazing Amazon, you can order online and have it delivered or collect from them, they are excellent! They do ship over Australia, I think to most places.
Amazing Amazon sells Wax worms, Silk worms, Mealworms, Superworms, Cricket, Roaches. They sell most if not all feeders. But they can be a bit pricey, so if you order from them, I recommend doing so to start your own colony. That is what I'll be doing anyway.
