I had to run to petsmart for dog food today and stopped by to look at the beardies. THIS IS THE FIRST time I have ever seen a petsmart have one baby to a tank and on repti carpet and the tanks were spotless. They had 8 babies 2 of which were citrus and 3 were reds..dont know anymore than that on the babies but I was totally impressed with this store...they had fresh veggies...pinhead crickets..saw no stress marks on the babies and the one i held was active alert and running up and down my arm. It was all i could do to keep from bringing this beautiful baby home with me. Talked to the reptile "specialist" and those babies had basking lights and uvb reptisun tube lights in their cages albeit for the size of the tanks they were the 0.50 lights. 2 of the babies were gulping veggies and crickets like there was no tomorrow coming.

Well thats good .. i think petsmart takes better care of their animals then petco does. I went to a petco a couple weeks ago they were getting meal worms that were bigger then them! There was like 8 in 1 tank and it was terrible i felt so bad.

Petco here is atrocious... I dont understand how on earth anyone can keep animals in the condition our petco does..poop everywhere, dried out veggies, mealworms and big crickets..one lightbulb. I didnt know any better even after tons of research before getting Geico, got him at petco but fortunately he was very healthy and other than a few worms hes been great..did injure his tail but its healing with only 3/4 of an inch the vet had to take off..he whipped it against his log chasing a cricket. Wouldnt trade my Geico for the world.

Wow! It's really nice to hear good things about a petstore :D The pet smart by me has gotten WAY better! There's still about 3 to a tank, but the tanks are huge, spotless, and have repti-carpet. I was thrilled! Maybe the word is getting out! :D

Yeah, we have two petstores close to us here. One is a Petlife which seems to be fine in care taking and a PetSmart that is excellent in care taking. We have a Petco but it is one hour away so we don't there often, if any. I got my Nim from PetSmart and he is a very healthy bugger. He doesn't show signs of parasites and is eating healthily. I think the word is getting around and petstores are getting better in pet care. Yay! :blob5: :blob8: :D

And that is the difference between someone just doing their job and someone who cares about their job and what they do.

i would ask for the name of the person in charge of all that and send a quick email to the company commending them.

That's a great idea bunnyrut. :D

I know a lot of people bag on Petsmart here but the one in my area is pretty good about doing everything they think is best for whatever animal they have. I used to have to a couple oscars and once a week for a treat, I would go there to buy what was labeled on the tank "feeder goldfish" for 10 cents each and sometimes I would feed them a few crickets. Well when I was asked how big a tank I had for this many gold and I responded that they were oscar food, I got horrible looks and then she said well what about these crickets and I said that's dessert. She told me I was creepy and from then on I got bad looks and if I was waiting buy the feeder tank I wouldnt be helped until I went and found someone. lol Maybe I was going to far feeding my fish a couple crickets as a snack every once and a while but I know perch love crickets so I thought they might like them too.

That sounds like a great PetSmart! Our local PetSmart down the road is OKAY when it come to beardies. Don't even get me started on the way they care for every other reptile... And SourDiesel, that's pretty odd. My PetSmart doesn't care if you buy goldfish to feed them to your Oscar or any other large fish. I think they're just overreacting. Its especially awkward since the tank was labled FEEDER goldfish.

It's odd, but I can believe it! It's like Myah's bugs, I feel bad for the little critters but they're food plain and simple. It's kinna creepy to tell our kids nursery rhymes about livestock (The cow jumped over the moon...) and then tell them the cow is dinner but it's the order of things. You should walk right back into that shop and ask how many of the clerks are vegetarians! LOL! Then finish off with "btw, my oscar says hi!" LOL! (Or...maybe not... :p )

I actually just got my first Beardie yesterday from my local Petsmart in South Carolina. They were having that 25th Anniversary special and the Beardies and enclosures were on sale and with the no sales tax this weekend, I came out with a pretty good deal. They were caged in probably smaller than normal habitat with about 6-8 beardies, however they all seemed in good spirit and were very active, especially the one I picked out. The one I decided on kept running up to the front of the enclosure and followed my every movement.

Thats great to hear. Ive noticed that petsmart knows how to care for animals. i went into a petco the other day and they had 10 babies cramped in a tiny tank with sand and dieing babies and there was no basking light. It was terrible.

Yeah, petsmart has always been better at taking care of their animals. The employees working there seem to know what theyre talking about for the most part as well. Petco on the other hand is HORRIBLE! It takes everything in me not to take home those adorable little beardies that hardly have the energy to walk because the dumb you know whats working there don't care enough to give them proper attention. Money money money, that's what it's about. :angry5:

I agree but this was such a positive post. I've seen an up swing on care so I really hope this is a trend that will continue.

Yeah, I hope so too. You'd think since they sell pets and pet supplies they'd have the correct information on how to care for them right?? I find that its funny because at our petco they gave us caresheets that they get online if you get an animal there. For the most part the caresheet is correct, but the information the employee tells you is usually wrong. Wonder if they ever read the caresheets?? lol

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
