the little waxies will be okay just watch how many you give him maybe only one or 2 a day. Not a staple just enough to help fatten him up then cut back on them to only a treat from time to time. Also be careful with buying from the bait stores make sure it is a safe one and that you are not getting any crix or worms with parasites. The last thing you want is to make a dragon that little sick. It should be okay just be careful.

Yeah. i know what you mean. this was the first time i came across a chain pet store that took such horrible care of their reptiles.
i felt so bad. but i could only save one little guy. the calcium i have does not have d3. but thats why im using the uvb bulb. and im taking him outside for at least an hour in the sun. ill try getting some waxworms. and if there to big, ill have to cut them *shivers* but thanks. ill be posting updates as this little guy grows up. today he wolfed down 15 pinheads from his first feeding. so thats an improvement. hes basking as we speak :D

I wouldn't feed your beardie wax worms from a bait shop. You don' know the conditions the wax worms were kept in. I would go back to petsmart and get there wax worms.

The waxworms are kept in small delicups. with some sort of bran food.
the waxworms at my petco are sold from the refrigerator. and most are dead.
i buy most of my feeders from the baitshop. and i gutload the food before i feed it to my dragons.
i always check the conditions that the feeders are kept in, and they seem pretty clean.
only thing i dont buy are the mealworms.

Great job rescuing him ! It will take a little while for the rest of his body to catch up with his chubby little belly, but he will because he has a great appetite and the SUN....is the perfect healer for calcium deficiency. Because of his small size and tendency toward a calc. deficiency, just give him crix for now. He is eating them well, don't mess with a good thing by giving wax worms. They are fatty and could cause an upset stomach...I've seen it....and give you a setback. He is doing great now, just be patient and keep up the crickets and offer finely chopped greens.

Ok. ill wait till he gets bigger.
he does have quite the appetite and belly.
i was wondering why his stomach was big, but he wasnt gaining any weight.
but itll probably take awhile like you said. he just ate 10 more crickets. and is still hungry :D
im glad to see that he has a better appetite and isnt so lethargic anymore.
ill post pics as an update. i have a feeling im going to have this guy for quite awhile :3

Your dragon went from poverty to luxury. If you feed the him little crix twice a day, 4-5 hours between feedins, it will boost his growth rate. And if he gets natural sunlight, you never ever have to worry about any UVB bulb, other than to brighten the cage. Just be sure to keep an eye on him outside constantly...they can have a quick heat stroke.

Oh. Ive been planing on making an outdoor enclosure for him when he gets a bit bigger. I have him with me at all times when I'm letting him sun bathe. He's been earring more so I increased his food to 3 feedings a day. And up to 20 crickets each time. So hopefully he will shed soon. Any idea of how often babies will shed with increased feedings and such? I thought babies grow quick. Ive had him for about a week. And how much do they normally grow on a weekly/bi weekly and monthly rate? Thanks again. Sorry for so Manu questions. I'm just curious to know how fast he'll grow.

I would have immediately called the authorities and reported the pet store for animal abuse after seeing that. I am glad you saved one of those poor babies.

Yeah, i felt bad for this guy. but i tried. they had alot of things wrong. crested geckos at 80 degrees +
whites tree frogs in a 5 gallon tank with repti carpet? 4 turtles with a water dragon in something no larger than a 20 gallon tank.
but ill talk to them again when i go in to get crickets.

Wow that petsmart sounds terrible. :(
Glad you rescued the baby and I hope he's doing well~!

I'm thinking of rescuing a beardie I heard about from my sissters at a petstore- IF my dad will let him. He's not sure about another beardie in the house(for vet bills and things like that), becauseI already have food...
But anyway, I can't believe that petsmart was that bad! The petsmart I got Scout from was nice... They were also holding the babies becaused they were too small to be sold...
Anyway, sorry you got a rotten petsmart. :( But again, I hope your baby is doign well and will grow big! :D

The Petland in Fairfield, OH (right by Jungle Jim's) is great with reptiles. Every beardie I've seen there has been housed by itself with a UVB tube, on carpet, and very active and alert. I squealed like a little girl when I saw a tiny baby beardie about 5" long, it was so darn cute and tiny, and it was doing the arm wave at its tiny cricket! I completely fell in love. My boyfriend practically had to drag me away from the reptile showcase. I fell in love with the snakes too.. reptiles amaze me.
The employees there do not recommend their loose substrates, coil bulbs, or colored bulbs that they have for sale. One girl there waved off all the loose substrates on the shelf and said "all of that is horrible, I would use repti-carpet" when I asked what a good substrate would be for a bearded dragon (back when I was just learning.. I want to do all the research I can before I ever own one). She also explained the dangers of coil bulbs, and led me to the shelf of tube UVs. I was impressed.
I recommend that pet store if anyone else here is from the greater Cincinnati area, they seem to me that this Petland knows what they are doing.

The little guy is doing well. Today he ate a good 40 pinheads and he ate some squash and chicken baby food. Ill post some more pics. The little one which I have yet to name has begun to gain weight and shed so this is a good sign. Any name suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for all the help everyone=) this site has been such a blessing

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
