im on board..i got a lizzard at petco and at first she was doing awsome..but well 10 months later she passed away, the vet said there was nothng i could have done that pet co is a terrible place for lizzards because they dont care about their health all they want is money out of the lizzards,,so im on board to stop this so no one else buys a lizzard that the pet store knows deep down will never have a happy and full life..

i dont agree. 10 months later has nothing to do with the store, I got my beardie from a petstore (petSmart) and 13 months later hes a happy and healthy lizard. sorry but what ever happened to make your lizard die was not the stores fault.

I work part time at the local Petsmart, and I don't know what your Petsmarts are like, but ours cares more about the animals than the people. There are people out there that work at Petstores so the animals don't have to suffer.

We provide vet care and we have several reptile lovers on staff at ours to provide information to anyone interested in purchasing a rep from our store.

I always use this site as a source of info to people interested in purchasing Beardies. I make sure I tell people what they are looking at as far as work for caring for a rep and price for the upkeep. If I don't think someone can provide for the rep, I simply won't sell to them.

So not every Petsmart or Petco or petstore is the same. There are those of us employed at these stores who are rep lovers, who only want the best for the animals and reps in our care.

I am all for a petition to be made against the stores that don't provide proper care! I does sicken me to see any animal mistreated.

I work @ PetSmart too fulltime, and I think our animals get what they need + more. I know that some reptile stores and pet stores in general suck, but Not all of them. I Enjoy working @ petSmart, not many teens can say that about their jobs.

I am not sure what your experience was but I for one have had good dealings with all the PetSmarts I have dealt with here in Oklahoma. I bought both Neil and Ziggy from them. They are both happy and healthy.

I was new to beardies and they have been nothing but helpful. I have visited several other PetSmarts in Oklahoma for food and supplies and always stop by to see their beardies. They always look well cared for and are treated well.

I have been to a private shop in Oklahoma City called Alligator Alley that I will not be back to. The people there are very knowledgeable. They have all ages of beardies as well as large assortment of reptiles. The beardies and other reptiles are not handled, colors are bland, and they seem hungry for contact.

They breed their own reptiles. Many of the juveniles are missing parts of tail and various other injuries.

So for me I look for a shop that has a good feeling about it and where the animals seemed cared for and loved. This can be at a big chain, it depends on the people who are working there.

About 99% of PM staff are out to lunch when it comes to reptiles!!!! I know because I researched BD and would go to the store-got WRONG info.In fact they are keeping in their Toronto store a Frilled Dragon on the ground shelf in a low tank-not vertical-for months.Sad,very sad.

I'm in. Let's not forget Petland, which houses all reptiles in 3x3 cages. I spotted a dead baby beardie at my previous local store. I was so pissed that they didn't check on them.
I will give petsmart props, though. In the store I went to in NH, they had three herpetologists. We all shared stories about our loves :]

I just want to restate the fact that we are all basing our opinions on our personal experiences (myself included). If there is a problem with any pet store in your area, be it an affiliate of a chain or a privately owned shop, report them to their superiors and/or the ASPCA. If someone out there has objective proof to back up their statements I would love to see it. For myself decisions such as this should be based on objective evidence and not anecdotal evidence.

It is prejudicial and close minded to say an entire business is wrong based on the actions of a few. Yes that business should be held responsible for the actions of their employees but if you do not make them aware of the problem they will not be able to address it. If you go that route and get shut down then by all means do what you feel is necessary.

This may not be a popular view with some of you. If not then examine your motives and what you have done to resolve the issue yourself. Most of all love and care for the ones entrusted to your care.
