If you read a little further in the posts you will see that this is not strictly about bad info from petstores. A BIG part of this is the terrible conditions that they house these animals in, and the inapropriate foods, substrates, multiple animals housed in very small vivs, poor lighting, etc... Care guides and info at the store are only a portion. If the stores are going to have the animals in their vivs for sale, they need to take care of them appropriately. Visual affect on new owners has huge impact-if they see it in the viv it must be OK. YES, every future owner should do their research. They should be finding out about the animal they want to bring home and what is required to keep them BEFORE the buy the animal. The problem is that roughly 75% of new owners aren't aware of breeders and assume that the only place to get the animal is from a pet store. And a large percentage of the 75% are impulse buyers-see it, it's cute, have to have it, not a clue how to take care of it. This is where the pet stores need to step up and take some responsibility and provide proper care and housing in their stores-the visual affect-AND provide proper, up to date info and care sheets. And, before I bought my first dragon, I DID THE RESEARCH. I had a good idea what was needed. But, even then, when selecting all the necessities, I had an employee standing there trying to tell me that "No, you don't want that, you want this instead". I chose to follow what I had found researching rather than the opinion of an ***** who has never owned a lizard in his life.
SO, If you don't have an issue with the petstores for ALL of the reasons that we are pushing this petition, that's fine, no one says that you have to sign or support it. IF you do feel that changes need to be made, then perhaps you'll join us.
