At 6 months old, Oscar was only 16". He didn't really max out in length until about 2.5yrs. He then spent the next year after that bulking up. He is a very picky eater, and doesn't have the appetite you would think he should have for such a large dragon. As for the whole GG thing, I honestly think there are no true GG genes left in the US. They have been watered down extensively with all the breeding going on. IIRC, there are no more GG morphs being imported to the US either, so whenever you see the German Giant catchphrase, remember that its about 10x removed from an actual GG. True German Giants are Pogona Vitticep and Pogona Barbata crosses (central and eastern bearded dragons). Pogona Barbata can get up to 26", but are usually slimmer bodied and lighter. The crosses had the bulk of the Central Bearded Dragon but the length of the Eastern Bearded Dragon. They were usually drab in color, as Pogona Barbata's are very dark.
Anyways, a 24" dragon is still within the realm of possibility for a Pogona Vitticep. Sometimes they just get big!

I'm working on the caresheet now. Condensing everything I want to say on a single page front and back is a bit tricky. I think I might just make a pamphlet after all with pictures and such. I have a duplexing printer, so perhaps 2 pages front and back will be sufficient. Would be like #10 font though .

Sounds like we are going to have an army of beardeddragon.org-ers out there keeping an eye on things this weekend

I've started work on the basic care sheet I plan on handing out. Its main purpose is to give an idea of what to expect when owning a beardy...it is by no means intended as the sole source of information got proper care. For that, I'll be including various links and references. I am trying to keep it on a single page (front and back). I'm not finished with it, but its time to get some opinions. Here is a screen grab, as google docs wouldn't keep the proper formatting. Suggestions, comments, and critiques are all welcome!

Looks good. Maybe specify that colored nighttime bulbs DO disturb their sleep as they CAN see colors.

Latest iteration. Shortened some passages, made a few tweaks, included a list of recommended links.

The Petco in my town is no where near as under educated as the employees that seem to work at your local store. But that is indeed crazy that they would tell you those things and then host an event regardding Beardie Awareness WTF...good luck to you my friend!

Those discounted "care kits" or east start up sets are nearly ALWAYS a rip off as you always have to end up upgrading the size of the viv and rearrange lights and what not..

also all the stuff you have to replace in them like thermometers, lightbulbs, feed items.

Another reason why I'm so skeptical about their "expert" information is because of what they are promoting. Check out their second coupon.

Other than it being a really small tank to keep a beardie in, these kits usually come with a bag of sand, the wrong lighting, and other items

A caresheet to pass out is a great idea! I'll probably just tell the people that I see and talk to about this site since I'll have my hands full with my beardie, lol  I am interested in entering Link in this beauty contest.

Ok, I found a link to the kit, lol

http://petco.shoplocal.com/petco/default.aspx?action=browsepagedetail&flashbrowse=y&storeid=2490054&pagenumber=6&listingid=-2083748394&ref=%2fpetco%2fdefault.aspx%3faction%3dbrowsepageflash%26storeid%3d2490054%26pagenumber%3d6%26promotioncode%3DPetCo-110529

So the bad things I see are the small tank, sand, "coil" like uvb, the heating pad for the beardie to lay on, and something that looks like the dead crickets in a jar. Other than that, lol, I guess would be ok.....

When I finish I'll be uploading a version to Google docs for anyone who wants it. You'll need Microsoft Word to see the proper formatting, as several of the photo edits were done within word.
As for the kit they're selling...I find it ridiculous. I can't wait for someone to get my care sheet then go and ask a petco employee why everything they are selling isn't appropriate...

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
