Pet Shops!!!

It really is confusing when the pet shop is telling you one thing and everyone else on this is telling you another! I recently went in my pet shop to buy crickets and I asked the guy in there if my beardies were eating enough, I told him they ate about 20-25 crickets a day plus lots of veg. He said that they were eating far too much and that I should only give them 12 a day and should starve them for one day of the week! I have ignored this advice however and still feed them the same amount which they are very happy with and are growing quite well, both are 6 months old and are 14 inches.

Is that 20 to 25 each or between the of two? Are they small, medium or large crickets? Are we talking about a big box pet store or a small family owned place and what was his reason for starving them once a week?

20-25 each and they are standard ones I did try the large ones but they wouldn't eat them. It is a small reptile shop but they have two of them. He didn't really explain why he starved them once a week but he did say that I was to keep them lean and energetic and not fat and lazy. Mines are energetic with quite a plump tummy lol. I'll post a pic of them soon.

Lesley that is the biggest crock of poop ever. You made a good choice by NOT listening to them and coming here for advise. Feed as many live feeders as they will eat in a 10-15 minute period and have salad available all day.

DO you have both of them in a separate tank or are they housed together?

I was told when I first got them that they could be housed together but I know now they shouldn't so from my pay in feb or march im buying another tank for them so i can separate before they start fighting.

Im on board with Gofast here thts complete rubish plus crickets are a low fat feeder compared to many worms. Better sooner than later on seperating them because once one becomes dominate over the other it will put alot of stress on the more submissive one.

Id fill those babys up on crickets They need the protein to grow proper. Yeah separate them soon is a good idea if they are males they will fight once they hit the hormonal stage. I never listen to the pet stores. If i have a question i all ways come here
