Outdoor Playpen

Hi Everyone,
I realize it's only February but I'm already looking forward to the warm weather. I want to be able to take Dawkins outside while still keeping him safe. He has a leash but I think an outdoor enclosure would be better. I was eyeing the ware animal hut http://www.hayneedle.com/product/warepremiumbackyardhutch.cfm . It's 53L x 24.5D x 21H in. and it has an area where he can go to escape the heat. I figure I can put in a branch and maybe a rock and it'd be a nice little area for him to spend some time outside. Now I know it's meant for bunnies and chickens but do you think it'd work for lizards?

That's a cute hutch. I can't see why it wouldn't work for a lizard. For the money you might be able to build something larger from screen and boards, but it's really attractive.
I might be worried about the open bottom, but if it's heavy enough it won't get knocked over and there are no critters around to try and get in.

Yes, the open bottom was my biggest concern because while we don't treat our grass so that'd be safe I'd be a little afraid of wild insects getting in. The website says it weighs 24 lbs so I don't think tipping would be an issue.

I don't know how big of a concern wild insects really are, but if your in the city who knows what they have gotten into. You could add fly screen to keep out bugs.

I've tossed around the idea of a open bottom screen cage to put over a lizard garden so he can get some sun, fresh air and a snack at the same time. I'm a terrible gardener though.
