our new baby, Eric!

Hello, i'm new to the site, and new to owning a dragon, or any reptile for that matter. Only really ever had dogs and hamsters.

We got Eric on Monday, he is about 3 months old, and a right cheeky chappie! (I don't know for sure that he is actually a he, but he turns out to be a she then we can call her Erica haha)

I've found this site so useful in learning all about dragons, the set up and what's recommended etc, so thank you to all you guys with the knowledge!

We got calci sand as part of the set up from the pet shop, but we decided we dont want to risk using that so we ordered some repti-carpet, that's arrived now so we will be changing his viv tomorrow.

We have given him 2 baths so far and he seems to like them, then loves a snuggle in his towel. He isn't to keen on being handled yet, but he just needs to get to know us, so we are just easing him in.

We have been feeding him crickets and making him a salad, which he doesn't seem to eat, although today he let me hand feed him a few bits or carrot and rocket, which was so cute. We had a problem with the crickets taking residence in his wood that he basks on, and didn't want to leave them there, so we have bought a separate feeding tank for him, tried him with that tonight, it was much better,although he managed to jump up, pushed the flap open and he jumped out!

Anyway, I'll take some photos of him and his house tomorrow and upload them.

He has dark striped marking across both eyes, he's stunning.

I'm so happy, I can't wait for him to get used to us so that I can hold him, I stroke him in his tank, the hubby has held him when he has bathed him but he doesn't seem to keen on being held just yet so I dont want to stress him out.x

These are from the other day, we got sand with the tank from the pet shop, but changed it as soon as we read it was bad for him, the little dude now has repti carpet and a tiled patio.

I love that first pic, of him leaning on the outside of the tank, the one with the carpet, looking over as if wondering what was going on, our beardies are very curious also. It's fun to watch them. Do you watch him eating crickets? I remember watching Rosie eat crickets when she was that size, she would have her tail curled straight up in the air, almost as if she was at attention to get those crickets. She only ate about 8 or 9 crickets ever other day, tho.

Haha yeah he looks so cool doesn't he, 'mummy, what ya doing?'

Yeah we watch him eat them, he'll stand still and creep over to like, looks so funny because he's just so small and cute and I'm used to watching that behaviour from big animals on wildlife programmes haha.

It's more fun to watch beardies (babies and juvies) eat crickets to me. They are soo aggressive until they have eaten enough.
