Oola (vet visit 9/18)

Oola is an absolutely great looking dragon!

She does sound like quite the diva, looks like one too. :mrgreen:

These next couple pictures are from a few days ago. Oola was out on the screened in porch and saw a seagull fly overhead. She did NOT like that!

Wow Pumpkin is a big boy! Oola's a little further behind. She's still growing. On Sunday she was 19" and 400g, so she's got a ways to go. Definitely grew like a weed there for a few months, and she's finally slowing down. She's mostly tail.

Oola has had some minor health issues. I've noticed a drop of blood in her stool more than once this week. She's still eating and acting normally, just a bit more quiet which I attributed to her shedding. When I saw the blood, however, I knew it deserved investigation. I ran a direct fecal smear at work and she had a very high Coccidia load. I'm starting Albon and probiotics now. I can handle illness in anybody else's animals (I'm a vet), but my heart crumpled for my little Oola.

On a better note, she got to spend the afternoon at work with me, and had many photo ops with my coworkers. She is the best-behaved beardie ever! Now, to get her 100% again.

Oola did really well with her Albon treatment! I had to forcefeed the Albon but she actually liked the taste of the probiotics, so everything ended up ok.

Oola has leveled off in her growth rate. The past two weeks, she's stayed at 19 inches and 475 grams. A big girl! She also just finished a major shed. Here are some pictures from the past few weeks.

She is sooo beautifuuulllll. How important is the humidity? Does the UVB go through the mesh top on the cage? Newbe here still (5 days). All info would help. I hope my baby is as beautiful she is still little but cute.

Did her parents have colored beards? I ask because I noticed my boy had started to show some yellow on his and when I searched through the fourms for answers I found your beautiful Oola and it looks like she started out with just a little stripe of color too. I always asummed those with colored beards were born with them, aparently that's not the case!

You know, I'm not sure if her parents have colored beards or not. I just looked up their photos on Draggintails but the pictures aren't at the right angle to see. Oola definitely didn't have her orange beard when I got her at 5 months. It just keeps getting more and more colorful with time!

It's important to make sure humidity doesn't get too high or low. If too high (consistently above 50%), then the dragon is at a higher risk for upper respiratory infection. If too low (below 15-20%), then the dragon may have trouble staying hydrated and shedding with be more difficult.

UVB efficiency isn't as great if you're using a mesh top. I like that I was able to install my UVB fixture inside the viv. I definitely recommend that option if you can do it. Www.beardeddragon.co also sells hangers to suspend over a traditional tank rim so that you can have the fixture inside an aquarium.
