OMG!!! first beard puffing...

so im pretty sure thats what she was doing but can girls puff their beards too? i thought it was a guy thing...
she was basking right before feeding time-it seriously looked like she was going to throw up! like her beard was puffing and she opened her mouth...i was freaking out until i remembered something on here about others freaking out about the same thing and it was ok...so i guess im wondering IF in fact it was a puffing session and not something i have to be worried about?
any advice or comments would be appreciated thanks

Don't worry about it. Sometimes beardies do weird things.

could have been a yawn or stretching her mouth and beard. My feamle will do it alot, more so when she is shedding.

My female dragon loves to show off her beard. She is a grumpy dragon. Perfectly normal thing for them to do.
When they are scared, angry, or when shedding the head/beard area.

yep, perfectly normal... in fact, my female does it a lot more than my male!! She gives him a run for his money with the black bearding too - proper grumpy little woman!!

and yeah i was a little concered because shes only about 17ish inches but shes not even a year old yet *i feed her a lot haha*
i was freaking out because i thought only males did it...i was about to be a very upset lady lol...the guy i got her from actually bred her for me and swore she was a female

Dont Worrie about it my friend acculy breeds beardies and it really funny when almost all the females puff up it really startles the males!

Yes it certainly does sound normal...I have two girls and two boys...my biggest girl likes to puff out her beard at the boys...and she also does it when she is happy...espcially in the tub...well, both of them do it in the tub...the boys only do it when they are trying to get the big girls attention

My little girl's only 13ish inches so you can imagine how funny she looks when she starts puffin and blackbearding!! Little madam!

I can remember the first time mine did this, and I had NO idea about what it meant or anything, infact I had no idea of any behavoir of dragons at all, and I was so scared I shoed him away w/ a blanket. Come to find out he saw himself in the mirror and was not liking it very much,

Scorch puffs her beard all the time! Mostly in the mornings... I think she does it to stretch, she's not a grumpy beardie or anything. She opens her mouth really wide sometimes too, and my vet said they do that to pressurize their ears... like we would on an airplane. Pretty strange. But they're reptiles, and we are mammals so they are obviously going to seem pretty strange to us.

Just wait until the first real hiss. Mine startled the heck out of me! :lol:

I always thought it was cute my first 2 would wake up climb up to bask then streach and look all big and bad. At 6 inchs it was a sight to see lol
