Add me to the Phobic list! My MEAN older brothers used to throw June bugs on me...shivers.. I call them buggies...and it sounds better.
I use a spoon to corner and catch and put them in another bucket or bin. I won't touch them. I have squealed like a little girl when I have had an escapee..always males who know what their destiny is, it seems. I plus my ears when they crunch, crunch, crunch...LOL
.....I don't see me getting better at it..I think they are neat..but from a distance....lol

Lol I was the same way. I hated bugs and only tolerated ones that would help a garden. They were gross and nasty and ugly because I kept calling them roaches. I stopped doing that and started calling them Dubia, Crunch n Munch, squishies, etc. The mental exercises got me used to these things. Now I can do this:

Yea it's a gloved hand but hey i'm getting there. Lol

I just had to read this thread because I totally agree about ALL bugs! When my husband and I first talked about getting a beardie, since my daughter loves lizards we thought this would be a good intro pet, and I found out that we had to feed live insects I almost said no to the beardie. My husband promised to be the "bug catcher", so I agreed. Well, since he works mostly 10 hours a day, I had to become the bug catcher and cringed at the idea. We are feeding crickets, one of my most hated bugs by the way, and just started on phoenix worms since the crickets are getting larger as our beardie grows.

I don't think I could ever feed dubias, since no matter what you call them they are still roaches to me LoL.

Ahhh, but they aren't roaches in my head.....They are tropical buggies that can't infest your house, can't even live in my WNY area...They can escape on rareeeeeeeeeee occasion, but I have found what lets them do that and its not a problem...Mice are about on par....lol

A candle fell and ripped my screen off my bin and since none can climb plastic, I didn't find any loose roaches in my room. (And I looked... Lol) crickets were in a cricket keeper and ALWAYS managed to escape. I was terrified of bugs at first but once all those stupid crickets escaped I was catching them with my hands and throwing them in the toilet lol. I haven't had 1 loose dubia yet. I did manage to find a mealworm that escaped in my house somehow? (Leopard geckos love them) plus my bin doesn't release a smell lol I gagged when I had to clean the cricket keeper

Reptiles have taken over my life.

lol!

I don't think I could really take away the roach effect, no matter what I call them. I'm in southern NC, so when it's warm they just might survive in my house if they get out.

My cricket escapees seem to happen when my husband feeds ..... think since he is not squeamish, he is less careful, where I on the other hand am super careful so no crickets touch me

I just received the first order of phoenix worms and they are no problem for me ....... I can even pick them up bare handed.....LoL They will probably be the only feeder once the crickets get closer to adulthood when our beardie grows.

Yesterday, I found my first washed, fluff dried, and folded buggie. It was stuck to a wash cloth... it was one of the 3/4 grown nymphs that I had put in Leno's cage and I watched it crawl up his leg and down and behind newspapers ...dang. ick...escapees!!!

I would much rather deal with the dubias than crickets, I hate the smell of the cricket keeper!!!! :puke: , the dubias do not smell thank god, I have a weak stomach for smells and sights, I can deal with roaches but crixs are a big nope for me once I finish these crixs I am never ordering bulk crixs again!!!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
