Gallifrey is only eating 2 to 3 crickets a time. I try and feed every 2 to 3 hours. Sometimes he eats sometimes he don't. I am getting bfsl tomorrow or next day, hope he eats better. He is almost 6 inches and weighs 9 grams. I've had him for a week and a half and he gained 1 gram. Should I be worried. His temp are good. I use 2 100 w house light bulb for heat, 75 w zoomed basking light, 18 inch reptsun 10.0 t8 bub. Let me know if something is wrong please.

Everything looks pretty good. Is he active otherwise ? How many crickets does he eat in total ? And yes, some beardies love the bsfl. Just give it some time , he's still new + getting used to everything probably.

He moves a lot, glass dances but only where the background is. I read that they get most water from there food. Since he doesn't eat his veg and I'm gonna give bfsl and I know there lower in water should I do something different. He gets bath every other day for 5 to 10 min whenever he gets to jump out lol. I don't miss him at all I use a baby dropper with water but he always keeps his mouth close. He only dinks from bath and that's rarely.

What are your temperatures (Basking spot, Hot Side, Cool Side)? You've got 2 bulbs that are both100 watts and then another 75 watt bulb? That's a lot of heat in a 40 gallon breeder tank. He's mouth gaping in that photo where he's basking, which indicates he's possibly too hot..

Why so many heat/basking bulbs? I have 2 enclosures that are 4'x3'x2', and another EXO Terra that is almost as large, and I only have a single basking bulb and Reptisun T5 High-Output UVB tube (puts off very little heat) in each tank, and my temps are good. Just wondering why you need 3 different basking/heat bulbs that equal 275 watts of light and heat?

Yikes, I totally missed that you have 2 100 watt bulbs AND a 75.....that would be too hot for him most likely.

Hi,
Yeah i agree, i think having 2 100w bulbs are a bit too much for the little guy. He only needs 1 heat bulb source. Having too much heat is just as bad as not enough so be sure to correct that ASAP :D

I used just 1 bulb the day before and the hot side was at 95 basking was 105. With both 100 w bulbs hot is 105 and basking is 115. I'll turn one off but I thought those were the temps I need for a baby. He only opens mouth once yesterday that I saw. I have 2 40 w bulbs also if you think I should switch them out

That temp. would be fine, 105 is a good hot basking temp. Sp a 100 watt and if you need a little extra heat another 40 or 75.

Well there's your problem, he's not eating because you're cooking him! Lol, sorry, but your initial temps with one 100 watt bulb were perfect!

Basking spot: 105-110 maximum for a baby (115 is lethal zone)

Hot Side: 88-93

Cool Side: 75-80

Nighttime: 65-75 (they like it cool at night like in the desert)

So you only need one 100 watt bulb and your UVB tube. That's it. No extra bulbs, no nighttime heat source, no colored bulbs (can hurt their eyes). 115 basking spot is lethal for a long period of time; 110 is a max for beardies, as he gets older it will most likely go from 105-110 to 98-103 max.

That should help you out quite a bit, he wasn't able to bask comfortably, and he probably didn't have a cool side to go to and cool down, which will stress them. Give him a day or so at proper temps with only one 100 watt bright white or clear basking bulb, he'll be fine.

So I don't need the 75 w basking bulb at all, what about I've? I didn't mean to overheat the little guy I did check his temp every hour yesterday. His cool side was 80 all day. I read that babies needed 115 to bask but I guess like most you read on the internet it's not true lol. Thanks for the help.

No, ditch the 75 watt too, just the single 100 watt bright white basking bulb and the UVB tube is all you need, as long as his temps are in the ranges I listed above. 110 is definitely max basking spot temperature, usually that can even be too high, if you ever see him mouth gaping on his basking spot then he's too hot, you'll need to raise his basking bulb up just a little somehow if that ever happens in the future (don't move his basking spot lower because it needs to be within the correct distance from the UVB light). But as long as his temps stay within those ranges using the single bright white basking bulb and the UVB light, he's good. I've never used a second basking bulb and my enclosures are larger than a 40 gallon...

What a cute litle guy. I'll bet you'll notice a difference in him tomorrow once you turn off the other heat bulbs. I had read on some other sites about 115 for babies too but that is too hot for sure. We know you weren't trying to overheat him. It would be a good idea to offer him drinks of water on his nose with a plastic medicine dropper or needleless syringe in case he got too dried out. He would probably enjoy a nice soak too.

Sometimes beardies do gape when they are basking, looks like they're smiling lol. But if done quite often and they also avoid basking under the lights, those are definite signs that they are too hot.

For the temp readings, were you going by the round gauge thermometers? If so, unfortunately those are quite inaccurate and can be 20 degrees off. Would be a good idea to pick up a temperature gun or a digital thermometer with a long wire & probe end as those are the only 2 ways to get accurate readings.

Good luck with your little one. Hopefully he will start eating more tomorrow. Please be sure to keep us updated.

I still use the 75 w bssk and 100w house bulbs but basking 1s on average 103 and hot stays around 93,94. Cool side 79 to 81. Humidity is 30. He doesn't gape at at yesterday that I saw and I got him to lick water off his nose twice didn't drink out of the bath tho. I got bsfl and he eats almost 20 at a time, I give him those in morning he eats 4 to 5 crickets when I get home and eats 2 more servings of bsfl.

That's good that he got a drink. Good that he is eating more too.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
