Newbie question

Hi there.
I'm a newbie too, and have been following this thread with great concern and interest.
Have you tried feeding him Phoenix worms or Reptiworms? I have my first baby, 8 weeks old and I ordered small, (maybe even extra small) Reptiworms and this was the food my beardie seemed interested in , soft bodied, really small, and apparently really good for them. I was curious as to why no one had mentioned this food source as a possible alternative, and would love to hear what other members think.
Hoping your baby perks up soon!

The above mentioned calci/repti/Phoenix worms are a wonderful food source and need no calcium dusting. I think the baby food suggestion are due to the baby's lethargy.

OP- you are still turning other lights on, correct? It's just the UVB that should be off. Have you checked another pet store for the turtle eye drops? Not to be pushy but when I called a couple for the Benbac (to increase appetite) the manager was able to locate all of my requested items at their other locations.

Are you keeping baby on a schedule of lights on/off? Have you tried the 12 on 12 off or even 10/11 on and 14 or 13 off? It should be a constant on and off schedule. Just a suggestion.

Please continue to update us and I have found that PetCo has always put a manager on the phone with me to do a search for items closest to me.

http://Www.beardeddragon.co has all of these items as well. I receive my orders 2-3 days from placing the order. I'm sure I mentioned the Benebac before but it has helped my beardies' appetite greatly. It is a gel in a tube and I started him on 2 drops 2/3 times a day for 3-4 days and slowly cut him back. He seemed to LOVE it and still does. He even recognizes the tube and immediately perks up :)

Good luck! Thinking of you both!!

Im sure he would enjoy phoenix worms if he was willing to eat anything solid.

Im worried because his eyes are definitely bothering him and it seems like hes got a little bit of some sort of discharge in his eyes now. Right at the top lid, both eyes.

I called the vet earlier today but her first available appointment is on Saturday. =/

[E] Luckily the vet lives up the street from me. She returned my message earlier today and I was descriptive enough over the phone that she was willing to prescribe and bring me antibiotics for Meraxes's eyes. She made a house call while dropping them off and looked at him, too. Basically said "Well, we'll give it a week and see what the antibiotics do."

I'm so sorry I haven't followed this closer...an update would be awesome. Also, did your vet give you a probiotic for your baby? Antibiotics will upset their tummy and really decrease appetite...in most cases.

Hope all is well. And again I'm really sorry for not being around for this thread recently :banghead:

Ah, sorry I havent updated recently, Meraxes has been on the mend, but I was looking for him to be completely better before updating you guys.

So he doesn't seem so dehydrated anymore; he scampers about with reckless abandon when he's outside the terrarium, and loves interacting with my computer and climbing up the couch and all over me! It's great to see him so lively because for the first week, he barely wanted to do anything. While inside the terrarium, though, he just seems outright bored; he basks a lot, and just sort of looks around a bit, not usually exploring the terrarium.

I've been feeding him the Squash/Chicken/Vitamin/Calcium mixture consistently as well. He still refuses to eat crickets and I even tried giving him some freshly shed worms, but he doesn't want them either. He just seems disinterested. I'm starting to wonder if he really just is used to me feeding him by eyedropper and he's too lazy to go hunt. Is that a thing?

He defecates like clockwork every morning, and since adding the Squash to the food mix it's been holding shape for the most part. Solids are orangey-brown, urates are a little loose but white.

The antibiotic eyedrops I was given are Ciprofloxacin. They've made his eyes much clearer, and the discharge lessened. I gently cleared his eyes of the discharge with a q-tip, and there's been no discharge since. So he's lookin' better on the eye-front as well. It looks like he may be shedding, since they balloon sometimes. But the rest of his body doesn't seem to be shedding, so I'm still unsure.

So basically: Eyes cleared up, he's got a lot more energy, but he still doesn't want crickets. Doing well so far! Much better than last week.

11 crickets!

He's been off the eyedrops for a day or two now, because his eyes seem fine. I put the UVB back into the terrarium but I put a little screen on it so it's not so intense, I'm just hoping at the UVB rays themselves permeate the screen, otherwise I may as well just be using a normal, inexpensive halogen bulb. And today I bought some fresh crickets and he ate 11 of them!

So good news all around!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
