Newbie- Have a few questions on tank set up

1. I purchased a 55 gallon tank , that was used previously as a salt water tank and for some reason I cannot get a film off the 2 sides, but the front and back are clean. I tried hot water, soap, windex and a magic eraser. I am boggled. Any suggestions?
2. I have a heat rock, along with a basking lamp. My question is how long does the heat rock and lamp need to be on everyday?
3.Where do you place the thermometers (the strip ones) on the front or back, near the top or bottom of the tank to get the proper readings? Any other advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Gary.
4. I do have a 25,000 kevlin flourescent light that came with the tank, will that work for the uv light?
5. Does the uv light need to be the entire length of the tank which is 48 inches?

The film may be some type of calcium deposit or mineral deposit. Only thing I can think of to remove it would be CLR.
As far as the heat rock. Cut off the cord and enjoy your new paper weight.
The strip therms tend to be off by as much as 20 degrees. Go digital.

2. I have a heat rock, along with a basking lamp. My question is how long does the heat rock and lamp need to be on everyday? Loose the heat rock. Beardies can't sense heat under their belly's very well. It can burn him. Have a day basking bulb on am-pm then get a Ceramic Heat emitter for pm-am.

Throw the strip away...no good. Get a digital from walmart for 9-12 bucks. Found near home improvement section. Be sure to leave the probe in place for about 45 mins to get an accurate reading.
4. I do have a 25,000 kevlin flourescent light that came with the tank, will that work for the uv light? Repti-Sun 10.0 is the best UVB out there. Make sure to remove any plastic housing between the bulb and the dragon. They can be found on petmountain.com for about 28 bucks including shipping. You will be shocked at the difference it can make It is also best to mount the UVB strip light in the cage so that nothing is between the dragon and light.
5. Does the uv light need to be the entire length of the tank which is 48 inches? Not for sure on this one, but I believe it is best if it is the full length of the tank.

Is the film on it like a hard water stain? Or calcium build up from the salt? I always use vinegar to clean stains and calcium build up off of my aquariums. It works great, and it is 100% safe and non-toxic. It also works really well to dissolve the stains on other animal cages, and you can soak fish tank decorations in it to get rid of algae build-up too. I love my vinegar, LOL.

Everything else has been covered though... No heat rock, and get a digital and a ReptiSun 10.0.
