new to using his hide

Jim has a large hide / basking platform in his 40 g breeder tank since last Sept . He has only used the hide once that I have seen . And that time he was half in / half out of it , then later came out to bask again.

Today after warming up he went into his hide and has been there all morning . He is awake and alert . At one point he was even gaping so I took temps with my laser temp gun .
Basking was 103 and the floor outside the hide was 88 .

Is it normal for a beardie to occasionally go in their hide during the day? I would think it is but this is new for Jim to do and of course anything new makes me wonder if it is normal . :roll:

His temps are good and not too hot . His UVB is repti sun 10.tube , I will be replacing it this week when the new one arrives ( it's just over 6 months old) . Nothing else has changed .

As long as his appetite keeps up and he is pooping regularly I wouldn't worry too much about it. Does he have energy/curiosity when he's outside the tank?

Yes , he will run around the room and sit on my son as he plays . Same as he always has . Still gets his daily bath which he likes and will sometimes splash around . he nibbles his greens and has some live feeders ( a changing variety of - supers , wax , horn , butters , dubia ) every evening .

Just the going into his hide is different .

That sounds pretty good. He may just be in the mood to be in the hide for now. Perhaps a shed is coming on and is irritating him. It doesn't sound like anything major to me though.
