New to the forums, and two new beards

Hello everyone! Jonny here, from Ohio. I just got two bearded dragons today that used to belong to my boss, then my old landlord. He had to do some remodeling so they got passed along to yours truly.
They are around 5 years old, and I've yet to determine their sex (no one has ever bothered to check). They're pastels, and from nose to tail are approximate to 12 inches long.

That's about it for now. I should be getting some pictures of them up soon, once they're done adjusting to their new surroundings. Peace!

Welcome to BD.org. When you said 5 years did you mean 5 months because 12 inches is tiny for a 5 year old?!

Nope! They're either 4 or 5 years old. My boss owned them, bought them when they were hatchling status, and then passed them to my old landlord, then on to me. It might be more like 15 inches, but I fear they've subsisted on a non-varied diet and weren't fed as much as they should have been. That's part of the reason that I'm excited to have adopted them!

Ah right - That's strange. Gandhi is 5months old and he is 12 inches! Do they seem in good shape apart from the size?

The bigger one looks healthy aside from a bit pale, and the smaller one has more loose wrinkles on the abdomen than the other. I think he hasn't been eating enough. Other than that, they're in good temperament and active when handled.

Hi and Welcome! I would highly recommend that you have them checked out by a vet and get a poop sample for each tested. If they weren't being taken care of properly, they very well could have a case of parasites, which can also be affecting their weight. You've already made a difference for them by taking them in, but they probably need some medical attention as well to get them healthy again.

I agree that taking them to the vet would be good. At 5 years and only 12 inches, they seem very malnourished so the vet check should help get them back on track. Are they housed together? If so, I would recommend separating them.

Thank you guys for your advice! I'll get in touch with the vet asap. Some good news though, they've already started gaining weight and becoming more active and less pale since I adopted them. Even Schmiddix (the larger and more lazy one) has started becoming inquisitive instead of lethargic. Hoorah!

welcome and congratluations on ur first beardies that is wierd there size that is i have a baby and hes 4 months old and he pushing 15 inches already but anyway theres a ton of info on the website and if u cant find what u are looking for just ask and someone will help you out good luck with ur new addition's
