Hello to all! You can call me Boo... or Rosie's Mom... We have just purchased a beautiful bearded dragon a week ago last Friday (so we've had her ten days now.)

My daughter has lovingly named her Rosie... though I would've given her the so not original name I'm sure of Lizzie.

Rosie is three months old, I'm told by the pet shop. She loves her crickets and she seems to love being petted... mostly held and petted but doesn't like the initial sensation of being lifted up. I hope that she will soon like being petted so much that she'll crawl onto our hands... that way we can put our hands inside and if she wants lovin' she'll climb on and if she's not in the mood, she can choose to avoid us... is this too high of an expectation?

She really seems to like Romain lettuce... but I've learned today (from this helpful site) that I shouldn't feed her any lettuce at all... so We'll have to go grocery shopping for her after work today.

N E Way... I'm glad I've found this community. I need to learn all that I can to keep my dragon happy and healthy - I am completely new to this. The people at the pet shop are extremely helpful... but keeping a dragon at a petshop is one thing... loving one as a pet has got to be completely another... I want help, tips, etc from my fellow dragon owners.

So that's us in a nutshell. Hope to "meet" everyone soon!

Hi, and welcome to this site. It is a great place to learn and share ideas and opinions about these wonderful creatures. Sometimes you might get conflicting information but usualy there is a consensus if you get replies from different people.

About the lettuce. It's not really bad for a beardie. Its just that there are much better choices. I have an adult beardie who wouldn't eat any kind of green except romaine lettuce. But he was at least getting moisture and fiber from it (and I also find it hard to believe that there is absolutley no nutrition in lettuce at all). So I kept offering him romaine lettuce and put some other green like dandelion greens on the side. Well, it took him maybe 6 moths but one day....he ate the dandelion greens. Now he will eat other greens as well, even though he never eats as much as he should and he still won't eat some greens.

Just to prepare you, in general, there are a good number of folks here who do not have respect for the advice that comes from a pet store. You may get lucky and get good advice but most people have found that not to be so. For instance, my juvenile beardie I got from a pet store because there was something in his look that said "please take me home", and also because I asked questions about the pet store people who were taking care of the beardie and they were giving a lot of wrong answers (e.g. we feed him kale as the vegetable, and we feed him a lot of wax worms because they're high in protein). Well, wax worms are not so high in protein and very high in fat and are not generally recommended for beardies except as an occasional treat.

So, all of this it to say, check on this site aboout advice you're getting at the pet store just to make sure. It sounds like Rosie is off to a great start. And we're here to help :)

Thanks Terry, for your welcome and your reply!

I am glad to meet you and hope to get to know everyone better here in the beardie world! Most think we are crazy for getting a "lizzard" for a pet... little do they realize how much personality she actually has! She's growing on me more and more every single day!

Thanks again!

I know what you mean about the lizard as a pet thing. Most people I work with just don't what to say when I tell them. I am seriously thinking about bringing Tiger into work one day, that should get their interest.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
