New to Beardies!

Hey everyone!!

I'd just like to say that I LOVE this website! I stumbled upon it while looking at bearded dragon caresheets, and have been reading it ever since!! The forums really have every good topic that I could think of - the admins did a great job ^^

I just got my beardie a few days ago. About a week ago I actually decided that I wanted to get a new, low-maintenance pet. I ended up going to the petstore to look around and walking out with two firebelly newts. However, the next day my boyfriend went to a different pet store and ended up getting a small snake. While he was looking at the snakes I was looking at the bearded dragons....

I very very quickly realized I had made a bad decision. One of the workers let me hold a full-grown beardie for a while and I just fell in love!! I decided that even though it's much more work, I'd rather have one of these loving pets rather than a pet that sits there and does nothing. I traded in my stuff and bought a whole new set for my new pet beardie!!

The pet owner suggested that I get a young one so I can bond with it as it grows up. That was fine with me. Now I have my new dragon!! I named it Tiger but I call him/her Tiggy for short. Ever since I got it I have not been able to stop thinking about it basically!! My boyfriend says that I'm obsessed. I'm sure most everyone on these forums can understand that though ^^ I'm just really glad that I found such a great new site to help me with my new beardie addiction!!!

Hello! I can definitly understand the obsession, I don't think I'll worry this much when I have my own human children! Anyway, what's the point in having a pet if you can't take care if it's every need!

I have a kid and I am still obsessed. lol
I got my first beardie last month and now I am up to 3.
I will be the first to tell you they are like potato chips- you cant have just one!

Hello! I can definitly understand the obsession, I don't think I'll worry this much when I have my own human children! Anyway, what's the point in having a pet if you can't take care if it's every need!

I got my new baby beardie yesterday and my husband told me I'm more nurotic (sp?) about her/him than I was when we brought both my kiddies home from the hospital :lol: and I know I was a nightmare then. :lol:

I just adopted Spike last month, from a family who just did not "get him". They did not enjoy his odor, or his need for fresh crickets daily. My students in my fifth grade classroom think Spike is the best thing since sliced bread, and I must agree! We carry him around like a purse all day. One question: Can beardies get spoiled? The last few days when I get to my classroom in the morning Spike is scrambling at the sides of his enclosure. He seems aggravated until I or one of the students takes him out and cuddles him. If this is him getting spoiled, what should I do about the weekends? Will it hurt his heart to leave him alone for weekends?
