Hi All!
Tho I am not new to exotic pets I am new to Bearded Dragons and lizards in general. I have had my new guy Boudreau for 3 days now. I am not sure how old he is and believe it's a male by what I have read so far. Poor thing was basically abandoned at our tattoo shop. One of the Boss' kid's friend left him there on the basis he had no where to put him and it would be only a few days. Well a few days turned into a month. Boudreau had been there for two weeks before I actually new he was there. Boss kept him in the office on the second floor which I don't have access to. The kid only came by once a week to dump a handful of crickets in the cage. Me and the boss started getting crickets and meal worms to him every couple days. So I started researching bearded dragons and knew he needed more than that. I already knew about the calcium and vitamins but had no clue about the different lighting. His body is about 10" plus the tail and has been living in long 20 gal tank with just a heat lamp. Needless to say I felt called to take him in, had to fork out $40 for him but at that point I didn't care about the money as his was not in good shape. I noticed he was starting to peel but his skin was like a rock where it just wasn't coming off. I gave him a bath the second day which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy. He really started to shed after that. It appears he should have some deep oranges and yellows in his coloring but without proper nutrition and lighting he looks rather pale. So far he has perked up amazingly in just the little time I've had him. He will let me handle him, actually perched on my shoulder for a while today. Trying to get him to eat greens which is proving a challenge. Cleaned the cage today and put in some play sand (sifted to get out all the rocks), there was some kind of black sandy stuff in there before. Was worried about him ingesting that black stuff all this time but he had a good poo today and his belly is soft. He has a basking light and a UVB light and there are plans to build a proper enclosure after I know he is okay. So that's it so far. I am so glad to have found this forum :) lots of good info and a lot of people who seem to care.

Thanx :)

I ran out to petsmart and picked up the exoterra 10.0 Reptisun. Standing in the store looking at everything was all so confusing and the employees just try to sell you stuff.

I will post picks as soon as I figure out how :?

Welcome! Kudos for stepping up and getting him some proper care! He has got to be a million times happier especially since he's getting better food and baths.

I happened to get my first beardie as a rescue too this past Saturday. He was a Craigslist rescue. His name is Doyle and he has a thread under Health as he's in such bad shape "New Beardie has a funky eye" if you're interested. This place has been amazing in helping me realize the things I can do for him and offering loads of encouragement even though it's only been 3 days. I couldn't ask for a better place to learn about beardies!

He looks so happy to be in some space! His color looks like it'll be beautiful once he gets healthier too. Very nice boy!

Awwww - he does look good for taking one in!! Glad you're researching on them and be sure to post any questions you have. You might want to look into getting textured tile when you switch out enclosures. Or use paper towels or newspaper. Less chance of impaction from loose substrate and tile helps keep their nails shorter/less sharp. Also, be sure to get a digital probe to check his temps. People vary in what they tell you for temps, but I think the general consensus is 100-115 on the hot side of the enclosure and around 80 for the cool side. Browse through the site for questions you have and ask anything you can't find or isn't clear.

Congrats!! He or She is very pretty!! :)

Since he's more towards the adult age, his basking temps should be from 98 - 105.. not up to 115. Adults don't like it that warm.. only babies/Juvies do...

It's not dirt. It's some kind of black sandy stuff (don't know if it was calcium sand) that was in his cage. Yesterday I cleaned out the cage and put in some play sand. He's having a good time now bouncing around. Last night he was scrabbling at the glass trying to get out and his beard was turning black. I took him out for a few minutes and he calmed down after that. He needs something bigger which is in the works.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
