Hello, everyone. o/ I've browsed this site (mostly for the beardie tales) for at least six months now, and I finally decided to register.
I've loved reptiles ever since I was little; however, my parents didn't share the love...so the only reptiles I had were two anoles a long time ago. I finally got a leopard gecko when I was a junior in college. But I was still too close to home for what I'd dreamed of owning for most of my life: a snake. Finally, I moved 1800 miles away for grad school, and a year later, I bought a ball python and named her Irulan. She's my baby. I made a friend with one of the vet techs down here who has tons of reptiles (she rescues a lot of the ones that are abandoned at the clinic where she works), and that encouraged me in the "you can't just get one" category. Hee hee. My friend has an unrelated pair of beardies, and they unexpectedly hatched a clutch last year. Well, I'd heard of beardies, but I thought the babies were kinda ugly (I'd never seen adults) and they seemed like a lot of work, so I declined when she offered some of her babies. I began Googling not long afterward, and I fell in love with them (even the babies, which were no longer ugly). About six months later, I asked if she had any left, and she had two: a brother and a sister, whom I named Leto and Ghanima (from the Dune series). And the rest is history.
As of now, I can't imagine not having a beardie. There's just something about them. They're the most lovable reptiles I've ever had. I love my Irulan, and all the rest of my pretties, but there's just something a little extra about a reptile who will show affection back to you--one that sometimes wants to be handled, one that will snuggle with you, one that will fall asleep on you within minutes, one that you know loves you. :love5:
Okay, enough babbling. On to the pictures!
When I received them, they were about six months old and eight to nine inches long. Ghanima is the orange one in the back. Leto is more of a ruddy brown, though his beard can get bright orange when he's happy.
One of my favorite pictures of them a month or two after I got them.
And this one was taken just a couple weeks ago. Leto is on the left. They're now 14 months old, 18.5 and 16 inches long from nose to tail, respectively, and they're not done growing yet!
So...hello again to everyone (and their beardie masters)!!
