Since I put his hide in he hardly ever comes out unless I entice him with Feeding time. Then it's right back in there. The hide is also his basking spot so I guess it's warm in there. I took the hide out for a bit and he tried to get inside this cave rock I have in there that only about 1/4 of him fits in and he looked stressed. As soon as a put in back in he went right inside it.

Is this normal behavior? My Beardie is about 5 months old. I have seen him bask about 30 mins the other day. He is eating his salad and Dubia's good.

Maybe the more experience posters can add insight into why it's happening, but in the meantime, you need to take out the hide ASAP. Baby needs his basking time!

my little guy is the opposite. He never, ever goes into his hide. It's pretty much where his dubias hide.... ha!

Hopefully your little one grows out of it!

If I take everything out he can hide in, he goes and puts himself in timeout in the back corner

It sounds like he's super stressed if all he's doing is trying to hide himself. Are you constantly in front of his cage peering at him or checking in on him? How long have you had him? Have you checked your temps and UVB with people on this forum to make sure that they're at optimal conditions? Do you have 3 sides of the tank covered so he can't see out of all directions?

I would take out the hide as it's really unncessary in my opinion, but then there are others who will say that it's a necessity. It just ends up being a hiding place for feeders usually for me. There is probably a secondary condition that is causing your dragon to hide from you and it's not healthy for him to constantly be in the dark.

The only one of these that I can't check off is the open on three sides. He is in a 40 gal breeder. and it is open on each side. I have been thinking about getting a paper background to wrap around it leaving just the front open. Maybe that will help. We are all adults in my house and none of us just sit there and stare. Even when the grandkids are over they don't pay much attention to him.

I saw the viv you built for Bacon and especially loved the background. Is this a different dragon you're talking about? Have you recently changed things inside his tank or around him? Bearded dragons tend to be really fickle and mine, at least, don't like it when I move around their furniture. I tend to have the habit of sitting and staring at HH when she's not eating or acting off and she absolutely HATES that so I try to stop myself.

Have you checked to see if maybe it's TOO hot in his basking spot?

When I take his box out he tries to get into that tall rock in the middle. Maybe I should move his light back out on top. I just couldnt get above 80 when it sat on top. I'm planningto make a custom hide bask rock like we did for Bacon. I'll make it shorter than this one.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
