New Beardie

So I recently purchased Serephim and she got here Tuesday safe and sound. She is 2 months old and 10 inches long. She pooed twice yesterday but none today and she ate 4 crickets. I have a ReptiSun 10.0 tube along with a 60 W ZooMed Basking Lamp both 7 inches from her basking spot. She is in a 40 L viv. with paper towels as the substrate. I am also giving her mustard greens, squash, and snow peas. The "breeder" said she was keeping her on play sand....(yes I know this is bad). And she seems to be keeping her left eye closed for a large majority of the time.....so I have bathed her twice trying to wash the "sand" or whatever it is in her eye out. Any suggestions/alterations in care? Oh I am also dusting the crickets with ReptiCal and Vitamins so no worries there. I have also ordered some PW and they should be here Monday (due to the 4th of July) Grrr..... SO hopefully the PW will help her Plump up.

Good job! Sounds like everything is perfect! Do you have any idea what kind of UV bulbs this "breeder" used? Coils and compacts can cause serious eye problems in beardies. Does the eye appear puffy, swollen, or discolored?

If you have a picture of her eye, that would be very helpful.

No She didn't tell me...ha she also wouldn't let me see pictures of the parents which I thought was odd but I continued with the purchase. The eye isn't swollen, or anything it actually seems better today after I kept giving her baths trying to help her clear the debri from her eye. OH and she told me she feed her MEALWORMS! SO I am a Bit concerned about impaction....she pooped the on Wed. but not yesterday and seeing as how it is 9 AM here on the East Coast I have to wait a while.......to see about today HA.

I may be a bit overly concerned but.......

If it is noticeably healing, that is great. I'm going with your theory, that it was a bit of sand or something of the sort. Keep an eye on it; if it swells at all or shows any signs of infection, take her to a vet. But it sounds like a minor problem that should clear up soon.

Feel along her stomach. Impaction lumps are small and hard. Does she seem to strain to poo?

We are all worry-warts here; there is just so much that could happen to an innocent little beardie! If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them, but it sounds like you've got everything figured out.

Thanks herpfreak! Serephim Pooped TODAY!!!!!!!! HURRAY I can't tell you how releaved I AM. Now I can breathe easy.....Pretty soon she will be settled in like Griffon....I need to update his age...he is now 3 months old...

Don't stress too much, . . . like we all don't stress at the slightest thing. . . relocation stress can cause her to be off her poop, and if you are changing her diet from mealworms to crickets and greens, it may take her system a bit to catch up. We don't stress if we go a day without a poo, sometimes our babies are the same way. :shock:

Isn't it funny how excited we get at poop? Spark hadn't pooped yesterday and had eaten a ton. I wasn't too concerned with the lack of poop, but was mentally running through my list. . . lights okay, should I adjust the basking bulb a bit (he loves it at 115 - 120), need to replace the collard greens with dandelions asap, he had a bath, should he have another? Talk about obsessive. He pooped first thing this morning, half his body weight, I swear!
