New beardie species???

is this even humane? i mean to breed them like that. like i said, i dont know if im just behind here, has anyone else seen them? how long have they been around? :shock:

The link doesn't work, but i'm guessing by looking at the web address that it was a silkback. It's what happens when you breed two leather backs together. I personally find them creepy, but not everyone is going to like every type of dragon. From what i've heard having their skin like that doesn't hurt them at all, just looks different.

when did they start appearing, and how were they bred, or should i say just where did they come from?

They list information on it here http://www.dachiu.com/projects.html. As long as they aren't in pain I am okay about it. But how can you be completely sure? They said that "her skin is not overly sensitive to touch when handling," I am glad they are taking good care of Ruby though.

Yes that is Ruby the Daichu Italian Silkback just to clarify it isnt a new species of bearded dragon just a different morph.It is the result of crossing two leatherback beardies.As for getting one there are really not yet readily available to the public and aside from Daichu and a few others most have to be purchased from a breeder outside the states and they are VERY expensive.I would recommend waiting a while longer before attempting it for two reasons,one the expense and two being as they are a new very different morph there are still possible health issues that could be a result of the genetic anomoly beside the obvious exterior.I do know breeding is an issues because it cant safely be bred with a normal beardie as the scales would become damaged from what I have heard and I am not sure if there are any issues in regards to UVB exposure or not.I wont get into the right or wrong part of this as it will likely cause a very heated discussion as it always does but me personally I like my beardies to be rough and spikey

They are an abnormality or a genetic quirk really, still P.Vitticeps though and not a new species as already stated. I personally think that morph is all about the $$$$$, it is also the main reason why the herp community here in OZ will fight tooth and nail to keep our borders forever closed, not that the government will ever consider opening the borders again.

It looks kinda like a frog with a tail. With no scales or spikes it just doesn't look like a beardie to me. Not that I think it's unattractive but I am not sure I like the idea of a soft beardie. I like me spiky baby. It seems like when breeders go to extremes it usually isn't healthy. Look at all the poor rotties with hip Dysplasia just because people wanted bigger dogs. When you mess with genetics how far is too far? IDK
