I just got a juvenile bearded dragon (my first beardie ) on Thursday evening. I am a bit concerned because he isn't eating super well, and he hasn't pooped since I've had him. I got him from a lady off craigslist who seemed to know her stuff and took good care of him. She told me he is about 4 months old, and when I weighed and measured him yesterday, he was about 134 grams and 13 inches long. His proportions look good to me, and in general he looks healthy. She said she fed him greens in the morning at lights on (7:30ish) and offered him crickets at about 5pm, then lights off about 2 hours later. She said she gave him a bath once a week.
I have tried to follow the same schedule for him, but yesterday I was about an hour late feeding him his crickets (about 6pm), and he still went to sleep at about 7:30pm (he hid under the paper towels at the cool end of the tank). This morning, I turned the lights on at 7:30, lifted the paper towel to see that he was awake, and left for church. We didn't get home until about 1:30 or 2 this afternoon, and he was still in the same spot on the cool side.
His temps are 98-100 at the basking spot (I'm trying to get it up a bit because he's young), and 82-85 on the cool side, measured with digital thermometer with probe. The basking bulb is a crystal clear 150 watt house bulb. I do not currently have the UVB light, but I have ordered a Repti-sun 10.0 tube, and the estimated arrival is Tuesday. I took him outside for 30 minutes of sun yesterday, and his stress marks almost disappeared entirely after I brought him back inside (there were several birds and loud squirrels out, so he got pretty dark). He is on paper towels, as I mentioned earlier. The humidity is ranging about 40-45%. I did add a sock of rice this morning, and it is the lowest I've seen it at: 40% right now.
I've fed him Friday, Saturday, and today, and while he has eaten each time, he only ate 5 crickets on Friday, 7 yesterday, and 5 today. They were dusted with calcium on Friday, and multivitamins yesterday and today. I bought the crickets from Petco, and they are the "medium" size. On Friday and Saturday he ate a good bit of his mustard greens. Today he hasn't eaten them much at all. I did pick up some Bene-Bac for birds and reptiles gel for him today, and he ate it willingly. I tried to drip water on his nose yesterday and today, but he didn't lick it up. I also gave him a bath today (though not super warm), and a bit of plain canned pumpkin. And then fed him his evening crickets about an hour ago (5pm).
He is pretty active when I have him out - he climbed out of the 15 qt bin I use to feed him crickets when he was done eating, and when I carry him around, he doesn't lay still against me, he wants to explore.
I hope I've given enough information. I know he is going through relocation stress, so that is probably affecting his appetite. What is "normal" for a four month old? I know as much as he will eat in 10-15 minutes, but he snatches up about 5-7 crickets pretty quickly and then ignores the rest. We've been putting in about 7-10 crickets, and he never eats all of them. I've even offered them with tongs, and he closes his eyes at them. Also, how long is ok for them to go between poops? It's been at least 3 days now because I don't know when he had last pooped when I got him. Also, any suggestions on how else I could get the humidity down? I'm pretty sure 45% is too high, and I don't have the room for a dehumidifier in my room where he is. I live in Florida and it's been pretty much rainy and really humid every day for the past few days.
Anyway, thanks in advance, and sorry for such a long post I just wanted to make sure to give you all the information I could think of.
