Hello Marcy,

The water dragon is beautiful....so your hubby likes him then?
How is your set up for him now?
Be sure the humidity is pretty high, at least 60% or 70% or so.
He is so pretty & looks healthy, all things considered. :D He is a lucky little fellow.

Hello Marcy,

The water dragon is beautiful....so your hubby likes him then?Thank you... My husband is smitten with the little guy!
How is your set up for him now?He is in the 40 gallon breeder he came with. I took out the branches, that were from outside and I don't know if there were sterilized and they looked NASTY. I will get him new branches and a TALLER enclosure. This will likely become one of the beardies enclosures before long until I get them all build custom enclosures. Which NOW hubby is interested in custom enclosures for reptiles.. Go figure!
Be sure the humidity is pretty high, at least 60% or 70% or so.The only humidity gauge is at Petco and I bought one for my dubia colony set up and it's wrong. I hate to buy one and have it be wrong. I am misting his cage, have a large container of water in there and have bathed him 2x today.
He is so pretty & looks healthy, all things considered. :D He is a lucky little fellow. He has not gone pooh yet. I am worried he has not. He had one tiny pooh yesterday. He ate 10 tiny dubias today. I am afraid to give him anything else until he poops. I will run fecal test when he does. I hope it wasn't too much on his stressed out system. I don't think he ate much of the insane amount of crickets that were in his cage before. He didn't even seem well enough to be interested. I am glad he ate the dubias. Should I give him some Acidopholiz? I don't know what to do for him. What to do to make him poohhhhh??? Worried!!!

I ordered humidity gauge from the local pet store, they ordered some and have one set aside for me. I'll have to get one for Stanley too. Any other suggestions for testing his humidity level?

Hello Marcy,

Good, the large water bowl in there should help a lot. What are the basking temperatures?
He will most likely be going through a relocation type of stress also, so give it a week or two before doing a fecal as he is most likely stressed right now. The stress will elevate his levels of any worms or parasites.
You can offer him a variety but the roaches are fine for him right now. Remember, he most likely will not eat greens or veggies.

I am a bit on overload.

I think the last temps I checked were 105 basking, 90 warm side, 79 cooler side.

Good to remind me about waiting on fecal. I will test it next week then. Give him some time to settle in.

I want to get him some Phoenix worms too...

Hi Marcy,

Your new little water dragon is just the cutest, I looked up a care site for water dragons & here's the link, http://www.triciaswaterdragon.com/dragoncr.htm

this might help you with his enclosure, humidity levels, etc. Sounds like you're going in the right direction, you can tell by his great green colour after being with you just a day! And the look on your hubby's face in that picture, priceless!!! Yep, figures that he'd fall in love with the water dragon & not your cute beardies (and they both are adorable & jealous, that's so funny!)

Good luck with getting everything together for Stanley & I'm so happy you happened to check out Craig's List that day, I don't think Stanley would have lasted alot longer in that awful tank. Guess someone didn't even check to see what type of lizard they had. Some people are just stupid when it comes to reptile care.
Take care, will keep any eye on Stanley,
Deb

Dear Deb,

Thank you I have been on Tricia's site since yesterday (thank you for the link though). I am watching him go between varying shades of brownish and green. He is more green under the UVB and when my husband holds him.... HOW cute is that? Yes that picture is one of my favorites. I took like 10 pictures of those two yesterday and that one was just cute.

I am SO glad I saw the ad and sent the email. I knew hubby might get upset over another dragon but who KNEW it would be his WATER dragon and they'd pick each other? The woman I think knew that the lizard was in trouble. Apparently they were her son's pets, he is 20, lost interest and she was left to care for animals she knew nothing about except a care sheet from Petco, which she diligently gave me. BUT I think she knew he was not doing great. That is why she emailed me, called me the minute I gave her the phone # and gave me everything for free. I basically said in my email I won't pay for it, would need the tank etc. but if she can't find another person to take them to write me. She did a few days later. The rest is history. Poor baby...

Wondering if I should feed him again today.

Okay, so this post could not come a t a better time. I've been seriously considering getting a water dragon and now I have someone to ask questions! First of all, what are you ultimate plans for an enclosure? One of the things I find most daunting about getting a water dragon is the idea that I'm going to need a HUGE enclosure with fancy plumbing or something.

Thank you! Stanley appears to be doing well.

He is eating dubia like man these days. No interest in crickets. I am wondering about mealworms and superworms, I have read that they can eat them, but not sure if the issues are the same as beardies.

Stanley eating, so far he will only eat when we put the food directly in his bowl. He won't chase down his prey. I am just glad he is eating.

Amazing the difference in color from when we first got him...

Enjoy! Thanks for being part of this journey with us!

He's doing so well & so glad he's eating. I have an issue with mealworms but I know alot of geckos & other reptiles eat them. I'd choose supers over mealworms any day, but roaches are even better for him. Thanks for the pics! Is he enjoying his viv & do you have the humidity thing sorted?

I kept reading "mealworms" on websites, but my hesitation with them is the same as it would be with my beardies. Impaction issues you'd think right? I mean they can't be all that different? So I think I'll opt for some micro supers for him at this age in addition to the dubias. He did eat a few crickets.

He seems to be adjusting well. I am still waiting on humidity gauge. All the ones in Petco say they are at 60% in the box. This is the one I got for my dubia tank, and it said it was 70% humidity and it felt dry as a bone in there. I refuse to buy a defective gauge. Pet store should have them for me soon.

I am misting several times daily and he has about 1/3 of his tank as water. I use clean bottled water and change it the minute he goes pooh. I use the professional cleaner on his water dish and then rinse it well since he does drink out of it and then add the water. I also use a damp hand towel on part of top of his screen cover.

He did have a pooh where his urates were tinged with blood. I had talked to Tracie about running fecals on him, and was giving him a week to adjust to new home, etc. But I think with the blood am going to run fecal on first pooh I get and then treat accordingly. I hope I have the meds on hand for it or off to vet we go. I have Albon, Toltrazuril and Panacur. Will have to see. I think the little guy needs climbing sticks and was thinking that I should get some even if he has parasites. I was using disposable cage stuff (boxes for a hide/basking spot) but I could go get new sticks outside, soak them in bleach and bake them. If he poops on them I just have a little supply handy. He mostly poohs in his water anyway. It's not like they don't come by easily. Might settle him down a bit more. Just talked myself into that one.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
