Alright so I rescued a injured baby beardie at my local petsmart about two weeks ago. His name is Pac and he's about 7 and a half inches long so I figure he's about 8 weeks old. He was missing two of his toes, which have healed. He was also too aggressive to be in an enclosure with other beardies, but I kind of viewed this as a sign of him being healthy so I decided to adopt him. He is very, very tame. He's actually more chill than my leopard gecko. He's been great and everything has ran smoothly until yesterday. My girlfriend and I were holding him and we noticed a "tiny red bug thing" crawling on his head.. Suddenly I felt a sinking feeling in my gut. Mites, mites, mites. So I bathed him and used a soft toothbrush and cleaned him thoroughly but did not find anymore on him. I put him in a smaller tank and took out everything in his tank and soaked them in a bathtub with scalding water and a bit of bleach (not even enough to recognize an odor) and scrubbed the inside of his tank down. I did not notice any mites in the water or anything either. After that I put everything in the oven for 30 minutes at 350F. I let all of the stuff in his tank air dry for about 5 hours after being in the oven, and I let his tank air dry for about 6 hours. I could not smell any sign of bleach whatsoever and there was not any residue left on anything. I made a point to be sure that everything was clean.
Here's where my issue is..
After doing a little research after I set everything up and put him back in his enclosure I stumbled upon an article that said that anything treated for mites needed to air dry for 18 hours? Is this true? He woke up today and had a nice poop so I figured that was a sign that everything was cool. I put a couple of crickets in with him and he has not touched them. So that's what has made me worry. I provide him with all his needs, 105 degree basking spot, 85 degree cool side, 10.0 uvb, etc. So I'm not missing anything. The only thing different is that I had to remove his background from his tank so he can see everything around him now. Is this freaking him out? :dontknow: If anyone can give me any insight it would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.
