now i know that someone said that superworms will not chew through your lizard and that was a myth, but i fed my beardy superworms today and he acted weird for the rest of the day. i just would love some extra confirmation that superworms are okay. I got them from Petsmart so they werent refrigerated at all so they were very active. so ya i just am super nervous about the whole thing, but i always tend to get protective when it comes to orion. Thank you!

oh and also when i gave him a bath today he completly submergerged his head in the water and just stayed there, is that normal?

As long as he comes out of the water again he is ok..lol. Super worms are fine I dont use them as a staple but more of a treat. But dont worry to much. Between being chewed and stomic acid I would say the worm is dead.

As long as your beardie is at least 16" in length, there should be no problem with feeding superworms to him. Just in case you did not know....superworms are not supposed to be refrigerated. They need to be kept at room temperature.

my beardie is about a year and a half old to two years. i figured that everything would be okay with the superworms but it just made me nervous. and why cant the superworms be refrigerated, just curious? i put them in the fridge because i's seen them chew through the plastic containers they are in and i dont want the crawling around my house haha. i can deal with escaped crickets but i dont think I would enjoy having superworms loose in my house

The superworms will slowly die in the refrigerator. Do you keep them in a rubbermaid type container? If you are using say a foam cup, then yes they will eat through it.

Are you sure they are superworms and not supers? Supers are the largest of the mealworms. Those need refrigeration.

Here is a link that shows you what they look like and how to take care of them, if in fact they are superworms.

they are superworms and i always noticed that they never were refrigerated but i didnt know why, they are in one of the plastic containers and i have just seen them chew through the lids before, in fact why i got them there were a few that were crawling around on the shelf that had chewed through.

i think i might not get superworms anymore haha they seem like a pain.

Actually, superworms are quite easy to care for and will survive for months if fed and stored in oatmeal or something similar. But, they cannot handle the cold at all and will die very quickly. So, if you still have them in the frig, you probably won't have to worry about the batch you have now. I keep mine in a heavy plastic coffee canister and have never had any chew through the plastic.

When first feeding superworms, we recommend only feeding a few to make sure your beardie can digest them ok. Since they have a harder shell than the softer worms, they take a little longer under the basking lights to digest. How many did you feed your beardie today?

i took the superworms out, looks like they might be dead. i fed him three and he just pooped today so it looks like he can digest them okay. are the superworms a good food source for them? cause if they are then i will keep trying trying with them.

Yes, they are a good food source and if well fed, can last for several months. It's always a good idea though to offer a 2nd feeder to keep beardies interested. Carrots, potatoes, greens are all good foods to give to the superworms and also important to have them stored in something like oatmeal so they can hide when they prefer to.

Hello again,

Glad to hear your beardie pooped. As Diane said, the superworms are actually quite easy to care for. I keep mine in a rubbermaid container(shoebox size). I have a lid on it, but have many holes in it. I put slices of potato in there every few days.

Most beardies love the superworms. I know my girl does!

Good Luck with them!

Dawn :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
