One year ago today (June 6)...I met my best friend. I didn't choose him, rather, he chose me. I walked into petsmart with the crazy idea of buying a beardie and all the stuff that goes along with one. I didn't consult anyone at home, or even myself really. I put my hand in the beardie bin and he climbed on. I couldn't have asked for a better beardie. I didn't know much, but I learned quickly with the help of the lovely people on this forum. I didn't know about the week or so you're supposed to give them to "settle," but my little boy took to me as quickly as I took to him. I'm proud to say that Nemesis has never been on sand. I guess he was a bit dehydrated when I brought him home, but he recovered from that in no time.
His very 1st pic in his new home
His first bath
It has been a bumpy road at times. At 4 months old, Nemesis got pinworms (probably had them all along from the nasty pet store)
I attempted to add to our family by bringing home baby Ljubljana (this was before I knew that beardies couldn't live together) Nemesis was not fond of this idea and promptly tried to attack her. The very next day I went out and bought all the lighting supplies for her to live in her own viv and gave her to my sister who also wanted a beardie
This was resolved quickly and he started to GROW GROW GROW
His 1st big house, a 38 g mesh enclosure
When I first bought him this log, he thought it was the greatest thing that was ever created...his opinion has not changed
At around 6 months, he developed an adoration for my computer, its nearly impossible to keep him off of the keyboard
Getting him to eat has NEVER been a problem
The last week of October 2010, his beard was as white as could be...1st week of November...ORANGE (it was very sudden)
Christmas rolled around and he enjoyed the company of Rudolph
His late December shed brought on some amazing colours that I never imagined he'd have
And by the end of January, he looked like this
Nemesis and Ljubljana meet again (under heavy supervision) 7 months later
As many of you know, Nemesis isn't the veggie eater that he should be
and this led to him having a tummy problem that caused him to bleed when he went potty. Even though I bathed him 3 or 4 times a week, he was still not getting the hydration and nutrients that he needed from the veggies. He ended up being in the hospital for 5 days having blood tests, x rays and barium tests to make his tummy better. It was around a 2 month process, but he seems to have recovered nicely.
His personality is irreplaceable and he is such a ham when I'm taking pics.
He is the calmest animal I have ever met and he loves to show his bright happy colours. He has only black bearded once in his life and that was the 1st time he saw our kitchen window open in early April
The first week of May, my best friend built him a brand new house which will be the end of his "moving" haha. Before he got this viv, he used to try to escape, now he fights to get back IN to this one.
Who knows what the future holds? But I hope we have a LONG time together!!
Hope everyone enjoys our story!
