i have a 3 month old bd and i was wondering how can i find out why is it that when he tries to eat a cricket he misses it. Its like he is going blind.

When it comes to catching crickets, practice makes perfect and he is just a little guy. Even my adult beardies miss a cricket every now and then. Hopefully, he is not going blind. Is there any discoloration or discharge from from his eyes? Does he ever run into things?

Hello,

Have you gone over your set up with anyone yet? Are you using a coil/compact bulb or a Reptiglo 10.0 by any chance? Those bulbs have been known to cause some pretty serious eye issues with beardies.

What type/brand uvb and basking bulbs are you using?
What are your temps both basking and cool side?
What are you measuring your temps with?

Dawn :D

Assuming everything is correct when you respond to Gulf's post... You may want to try putting a few crickets into the fridge or freezer for a few min before feeding them to your BD, This will slow them down and your little guy can go to town on them!

I usually put a bunch in the freezer for about 3 min (in a container of course) I pull them out and they seem dead, while in this slumber, I use a pair of feeding tongs and pull off their back legs, then pour them all into a shallow dish. My beardie loves it, he will stand over the dish and eat them as they thaw and start moving again. This keeps the cage clean, and whatever he doesn't eat can stay in over night for him to nibble on in the morning since they can't get out of this dish.

I know this sounds a little mean, but a lot of beardies will get very discouraged when they try to catch a cricket and it gets away, I have even seen some give up on a whole meal because of this.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
