hello,
i've had Jake now for about 3 months and i'm having some problems with the tank. It's a 30 L (im looking into a 55), the temps are fine and everythings good except for the decor. I have cage carpet for my substrate and its starting to cause problems. The cage carpet tends to flare up at the ends and has small areas in it which raise up. There farely new, i've washed both pieces only twice. The problem is that crickets love to crawl under there and its like a second job trying to take them out. Im looking into some other kind of substrate, possbly tile. The bigger problem however is that the basking fixture i have is sort of like a fake rock. It has tiny holes all over it, i'm assuming for water to drain out of if anybody wants to wash it. But, i just recently found out that PLENTY of crickets made the inside of that rock there second home. When i shook all of them out, it stunk horribly b/c most of them were dead from not having any food. I rinsed it out with vinegar+water, and a diluted bleach solution. But i think im just going to get rid of that and look into something else, without any holes. I'm 100% positive all of those dead crickets couldn''t have been good for anyones health. I'm looking into buying a new basking rock, cave, and a hammock. If anybody has any suggestion, i would be happy to hear them.
I really want to try tiles though, so if anyone knows anything about how i would go about that please let me know...
