Wow, congrats! I e-mailed my mom when I signed...so I hope that the 3 (me, Lucas, and my mom) helped some.
I'm still seeing problems with the PetSmart here. We had to buy crickets from them (we were desperate) and the babies were just so small (none of them were over 5", most no more than 4"). Oh, and they had "pastels" that they were selling for twice as much as the other babies. They were good looking babies (surprise, surprise, they take care of the more colorful ones that they can make more money off of better than the others), but some were too big to be with the "normal" beardies (that they don't seem to care about as much). They still have sand as a substrate, I saw a ReptiGlo 2.0 being used for a smaller group of babies (I couldn't read the UVB for the larger group), feces was everywhere, and they had HUGE pieces of iceberg lettuce in the cage. One piece was as big as the baby's head that was trying to eat it. I almost screamed...luckily he/she just bit on it and realized it couldn't even open its mouth wide enough for the STEM :angry5: so he/she let go and took off.
I know PetSmart is supposed to have better "standards" for their beardies, but this one is still pretty bad. What can I do? We already tried to get a humane society to look into it, but there isn't even one that will cover this specific area! I know that I can't blame it on the employees, but I think they should learn a little more about the species of animals they are taking care of. The geckos looked horrible too.
Any ideas? Sorry, it's just been bothering me (I'm sure you know the feeling) and I feel like I need to do something.
Great job with the petition though! The "small" victory you had close to you, is really a huge one to those beardies.
Abi
P.S. I hope this "bumped" the thread up.

Yes call and report the store to the regional manager. While I know Petco isnt great I do know at the very least they are supposed to adhere to 2 ruled, no sand(repticarpet only) and also no size variations.Call and if you get no where call again and again eventually they will be forced to repair at least that part of the problem.

Thank you! Ok, this may sound stupid...but how do I get ahold of them? Do I just call the store I'm seeing the problems with and ask for the number or can I find it on their website somewhere?

Sorry to double post but they were NOT following either rule. I don't know how much of a size difference there has to be, but to me, there was at least one in there that had an inch in length on the others. Absolutely no ReptiCarpet...although their care sheet FINALLY has changed that...the store hasn't!

I signed the petition....I am all for trying to get them to change their care standards. The PETCO store by me does use reptile carpet and has for a few months now, so maybe this will help bring about other changes as well!! :)

#291 here.

I was in PETCO yesterday, only cause they had vitamins i needed and my usual supplier was out of town, and I wasn't thrilled. I have a good friend who works there and doesn't like how they keep the reptiles, but hopefully this will do something.

I couldn't even get the number for the regional manager at PetSmart. They think that it's ok to have dragons that are over 6" on the calci-sand (they still think it's easy for the dragons 6" and above to digest :angry5: ). I did, however, get them to separate the different sized dragons and all of them under 6" are on ReptiCarpet now. Thank goodness for the mealworm shortage, because they have had to feed them crickets. They'll go right back to mealworms as soon as they can though!!!!!!! :angry5: I'm still working on it and will be checking in on the babies, plus seeing if I can get my vet to write something about the mealworms and calci-sand...just to start with.
Thanks for the info though, now I know how to go about it and get more changes made.

Sure will. I might be going to see her tomorrow or next Wednesday. I'll see what I can get. She's a great vet though and will be more than willing to help.
I guess it's one tiny step at a time.

I have sent a the link to this thread and also the petition to a friend of mine who has written several amazing articles on the care of reptiles. I have read quite a few of his article, and am always impressed with his knowledge and understanding of these fabulous creatures! He is really good at responding to his emails, so if not anything we will at least get the petition signed by more of his friends and customers who subscribe to his email list. He loves to share his knowledge so I think you should be hearing from him soon....

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
