I just got a bearded dragon from a lady that didnt know what she was doing and just didnt want it any more. i dont know much about it except for it has been eating bananas, crickets, peas, carrots, and lettuce. i can not see if it is a boy or girl because it has these clumps all around its tail, it does not seem to be shedding properly, and seems very dehydrated. i dont know what to do i am in the process of getting a vet appointment but cant do it till about two weeks from now. if anyone knows anything about what is going on with its tail please help me.

I'm not the most experienced on the forums so I can't help much, but you should give them a bath to help hydrate them and help with the shedding.

EDIT: thank you for posting the pictures. I'm not positive but that looks like some bad tail rot. You need to get him to a vet ASAP

i have given it a warm bath and it drank water, it helped with the shedding a little but im concerned about the base of the tail more than anything.. i have rehabilitated a beardie before but i have never seen the clumps on the tail

That's great that they drank, and they look pretty alert in the picture too so that's good. They really do need vet care though as soon as you can.

Is there any way you could get a closer picture? it is difficult to tell whether it is retained shed or yellow fungus. Is there anything abnormal under the tail or in the vent area?

Think of this like you are washing an infant.
If you put the dragon in a luke warm betidine bath, about the color of week tea, then ...
Take a SOFT toothbrush and see what will come off. If the dragon pulls away, then you are being to hard, this should be a very gentel process, see what will come off in the bath. Lamisil is an anti-fungal cream and can help if it is fungus, neosporen can help if it is an injurry, but first we need to know what it is. Please take pics of the underside of the dragon, but DO NOT turn the dragon on its back, because they can not breathe on their backs.
There are many more people on here with more know how than me, but this will give you a start. Good Luck, and keep us posted.

Thank you for taking the poor thing home. Whatever happens from here on out will be heavenly compared to what it has been through. There is retained shed. I am guessing there is yellow fungus present, as well. Others will know better than I.

Recommendations:
Remove whatever substrate is present (unless it is tile). Put paper towel on the bottom of the cage.

Bathe once-twice per day. Use plain water first so he can drink his fill. Then refill tub with warm water and Betadine, as was previously mentioned. Povidone iodine is generic Betadine.

Apply the Lamisil or other anti-fungal to the affected areas, also as mentioned. I don't know whether that or and antibiotic cream would be best for the bloody parts.

Is he eating well? How about going potty?

Thanks for the pics. They helped. More will be by later to help.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
