Hi guys,
I'm totally open to suggestions on this, because I'm at a total loss...
At first we were feeding Dexter 10 Med/lrg locusts a day alongside his daily bowl of veg.
We realised that Dexter's live/veg ratio was about 70:30. As he's guesstimated to be 3 years old, I know it should be 20:80.
At first we dropped him to about 5 locusts a day, but he was still preferring to wait for bugs than to eat his veg.
As he was still having too many bugs, Si suggested we feed him 2 - 3 times a week. As we were feeding so infrequently, the locusts ended up growing faster than he was eating them, so they all changed into adults which I cannot feed him, as he became impacted when I fed him adults on day one of having him.
I didn't have money to get some more until 5 days later, we then decided to see how we go feeding him 10 bugs twice a week.
On 8th March he weighed 483g. He was looking nice and healthy too. (Not fat, and certainly not thin!) Though, I reckon he still could have gained a bit more weight.
On looking at him this month, I felt that he looked quite thin. I asked Si to get the scales so that we could weigh him. On 9th May he was 478g. Only a 5g loss, but if you work out how much he should have gained by going by his past records of gaining, the actual loss is probably significantly higher.
So...
How many bugs of large size do you guys think that Dexter should be having, and how frequently? They've obviously grown since having them so they are now large. (2 sizes down from adults )
As stated previously, I'm open to opinions and suggestions.
regards
