Nathaniel, Cierra, Castiel, Freya, Grrl; RIP GABRIEL

We never expected to get another dragon, but our neighbours next door wanted to give away Cleo, as he was called. We'd babysat him before, he's such a sweetheart. We nicknamed him Velcro because when he snuggles he never wants to go back to his viv, he hangs on as if he's made out of velcro.

So here he is. Today was his first day with us. He ate 13 supers and ate some squash, not bad for the first day he was here. He's only in a 30 gallon tank, which will be ok for now. He's 18" long but weighs only 200g. We figure he's probably 2 yrs old. Our neighbours rescued him last fall, they found him and a female (which they named Puff) on Craig's list. They were in a 30 gallon dirty tank, with sand and a huge log that took up 1/2 the space in the tank. Leo was at the bottom, he was sooooo skinny. He's gained weight, but never got the attention he deserved. I took some pics today, but will take more tomorrow. I think he remembers our place as didn't get stressed as I expected. No stress marks at all. When we let him run around the living room, he noticed our girls and immediate black beard, so his hormones are working!

He had a bath this morning, had a big poop, no smell, so not worried about parasites.

So here are a few pics, he's a yellow & dark gray, light gray colour.

Just in case "it" took, you probably should give Cierra a little extra calcium for the next month or so.

I'm thinking that might be a good idea. Her appetite is coming back, she ate about 10 med dubia, then topped that off with 2 males. She really likes male dubia, strange that, wings and all!

That's good that Cierra is eating so well. Hopefully you were able to stop the "act" in time and there will be no eggs.

Wow, roaches are really helping Cierra, she's eating them like there's no tomorrow, including the male dubia, so I weight her today and she's up to 281! Now she's in the bath after a tummy massage & I'm also keeping track of her & Nathaniel's poops as they're not often enough for a 1 yr old.

I also took more pics, can you see I'm home?

Cierra has taken to roaches of all sizes!

Leo got fed up with Puff's low bobbing and decided to leave. He definitely is not a ladies man :mrgreen:

Puff wasn't very happy about it, either.

Meanwhile, Gabriel was going nuts trying to get out with Puff, too:

So I took him out to feed him worms and greens, then he decided to attach himself to me for snuggles

I also discovered that Cierra hates Nathaniel, when I put her out on the living room floor and she saw him, she puffed her beard out as much as it would go, puffed up her body and glared. So I put her right on the ramp where she can't see him. She's now watching TV. Poor sweet girl, I'm so hoping I caught him in time...

Leo just an old man with no interest in women. Well he's not too old.
I hope Cierra has no babies in her. I understand her dislike for her brother it was uncool how he just attatched himself to her.
Nathaniel has no worries in the world he was doing snuggles and eating.

I thought Puff didn't have a reaction to Leo.

Puff always slow bobs him, Kami, it's Leo that has no reaction & moves away. Opposite to what most males would do. I have Leo and Cierra out sunning themselves, Cierra ran over him, sat on top of him, it was so funny and old man Leo just sat where he was sunning, not bothered at all. She's used to Leo, he's across from her a bit lower and has never had a reaction to her, so she feels safe with him. I sat beside them for 1/2 hr while they basked in the real sunshine as it was warm enough to open the balcony door. Caught Cierra climbing the partition a couple of times, but never let her on the balcony, it's too dirty, needs a good wash. Maybe I'll find the energy on the weekend. Sunday is the only day I go out, to my sis's for Easter dinner and Carly's birthday party.

I have more pictures, but have to get my lunch & be on my way to a doc appt, will post them later.

You got that spot on, Gina, he does think of himself that way & yes, he sports that beard proudly all day long. When I feed him he has it, when I pick him up & snuggles, it starts to reduce but it's never, ever, gone fully away.

And Diane, yes, he is full of himself.

They would definitely fight to the death. The only time Gabriel let him get away with anything was when Nathaniel was on my knee, Gabriel was on the ramp & Nathaniel ran & jumped on top of Gabriel; the expression of Gabriel was "this would make a nice snack, Mom" :lol: So they are never out together.

I think Puff was crushed with Leo's attitude, the expression on her face was priceless, she couldn't understand why she was being rejected. But Leo doesn't want any female. He let Cierra walk all over him when they were out together. I was right beside them the whole time.

As you can see, Cierra felt very comfortable with Leo and they were out like this for over 1/2 an hour. Cierra kept climbing the partition (of course it's easy to climb :roll: but it's all I have for now.)

And this was Puff's reaction to Ceirra and Leo being out together :lol:

And when I got home I found an egg in Puff's tank, so I think she'd gravid & the 3 from earlier this week are from a separate clutch, but I'll know more in the next week. Might be the reason why she has a black beard again...poor sweetie, she's on my shoulder and we're going to have a long snuggle tonight.

Cierra sure is quite the climber. Can tell she feels safe around Leo, that's good.

:shock: WOW! You're right, they can never be out together for sure. Even though Nathaniel is a yr old, I wonder if he had delayed puberty since he was undernourished before you got him and now that he has what he needs, it has really kicked in.

I think that's what happened, when I first got Nathaniel, he had no clue that he was male or that Puff was female. Even thought Gabriel was a good dragon to play with. It didn't take long, about a month, before he was a raving MALE and he's been that way ever since.

Hello Deb,

All of your pictures of your babies are terrific! Cierra is beautiful & looks like she has settled in very well as well as Nathaniel too. He is a very naughty dragon indeed! LOL
You are doing a great job & they are all very happy to have you as a mom. They get a lot of run time & interaction which is so wonderful for them.

I know you are having fun. I hope you are feeling better, too.
