Nathaniel, Cierra, Castiel, Freya, Grrl; RIP GABRIEL

We never expected to get another dragon, but our neighbours next door wanted to give away Cleo, as he was called. We'd babysat him before, he's such a sweetheart. We nicknamed him Velcro because when he snuggles he never wants to go back to his viv, he hangs on as if he's made out of velcro.

So here he is. Today was his first day with us. He ate 13 supers and ate some squash, not bad for the first day he was here. He's only in a 30 gallon tank, which will be ok for now. He's 18" long but weighs only 200g. We figure he's probably 2 yrs old. Our neighbours rescued him last fall, they found him and a female (which they named Puff) on Craig's list. They were in a 30 gallon dirty tank, with sand and a huge log that took up 1/2 the space in the tank. Leo was at the bottom, he was sooooo skinny. He's gained weight, but never got the attention he deserved. I took some pics today, but will take more tomorrow. I think he remembers our place as didn't get stressed as I expected. No stress marks at all. When we let him run around the living room, he noticed our girls and immediate black beard, so his hormones are working!

He had a bath this morning, had a big poop, no smell, so not worried about parasites.

Well I have a new crop of photos to show you. I was home all weekend, so had lots of photo ops!

Later I found him hanging onto the little branch off his other log, still can't figure out how he perched himself on it, he's never done this before, at least when I was home:



Then the most amazing thing happened this evening when I cleaned out Rocco's tank. Now this is a gecko that can very rarely be touched, never mind handled, but after I'd taken out all his "furniture" and fig tree, I had to get the cork off the back, as crickets had managed to get on the other side & had died and were stinking to high heaven. So I carefully took it down and as I was bringing it out, Rocco jumped out of his tank :shock: and onto the floor. Well I grabbed him up before he could disappear underneath the big heavy chair and he stayed on my hand the whole time I was one-handedly cleaning his tank. In fact after I put everything back, including the cork back (all one-handed), I put him back in his tank and he started glass dancing (who knew geckos did that?) so I brought him out and he stayed quietly on my hand as I sat on the sofa in the dark, we must have sat there for a 1/2 hr. Now I've been taking care of Rocco for 2 years and Roger 4 years before that and I've only handled him once in all that time. I was flabbergasted and very touched that he was willing to sit on my hand for so long, especially when I cleaned his tank, which took a 1/2 hr at least as well. So now I'm wondering if he got a chill while the door was open (even though it's 76F in the apartment!). I'm wondering if this will happen again. He's so soft, not as soft as Bunny, but almost. And he's so cute!

Hi Liz, I know, it's awesome. None of my other dragons can be out together without trying to take bites out of each other, especially with Titan. Yet Gabriel will snuggle with him and he has no problem with Titan being out with him, it's just amazing! Of course I still won't let them be together without watching them like a hawk, but if I want 2 beardies to snuggle I always choose Gabriel and Titan. Either Gabriel moves over to snuggle on Titan or vice versa and there's never any drama, not like with the others (especially Didi) :lol:

Matt, Rubio had just eaten, he's been giving me those looks ever since I got home from my trip, Lonzo, too. And it took Didi the whole week to forgive me for being away :mrgreen: The only ones who weren't upset were Leo and Titan. Even Gabriel had to be snuggled for a whole day before he'd smile at me again. Guess I won't be travelling anymore, well for awhile at least!

Hi Christine, isn't that just amazing? I was so totally awed Rocco, but today I couldn't even touch him, so hopefully next time I clean out his tank, he'll let me snuggle him again. It was just awesome that he wanted to stay on my hand :love5:

Hi Gina, Rubio is so silly over that water dish, but he's always in it one way or another. Didi is a ramp diva, no question, it's always MINE, MINE, MINE and he gets really mad at me when I let one of the others out, but I have to, they all need to get out some.

It was funny to see Lonzo doing that, he's never done it before, or at least that I've noticed.
And isn't that funny the way Titan just holds onto that tree? He didn't go near it for the longest time, just the last week I've noticed him hugging it all the time. Guess he feels it's comfy, as I took the "beehive" out that he loved to climb, as it's Didi's. So when I finally get around to setting up Didi's new tank, he'll have a couple of things that he'll recognize. He won't be happy to be in a tank again, but he'll have to sleep there come fall.
I know, Titan and Gabriel really get along great, I never thought I'd see if, but they've been like that since I brought Titan home. It still amazes me, no black beards, nothing. Makes me feel good!

Okay I am totally in love with Gabriel and Titan!! I love all your boys, but how cute are they! Full of snuggles and smiles, makes my heart melt! Someday when I come visit you I plan on spending the day with Rubio, you'll have to watch me like a hawk though, as I may try to beardienap him!! I'm just kidding I would never ever take them away from their Mama whom they love soooo much. Chloe is sitting here with me and she got pretty excited at the pictures of Titan!! We may have a love connection over here hahahaha!!

Isn't Titan cute & Gabriel is really good with him, I'm just so surprised because none of my boys can stand being around each other normally. Seeing them together makes me smile ALOT!

I'll let Titan know that he has an admirer, Chloe is such a beautiful girl, not sure he'd know what to do with her though, he'd probably just want to snuggle!

Well, surprise, surprise, I found an unfertilized egg in Bunny's tank! Took it out and disposed of it, but it was perfect and if she'd been bred, it would have been a perfect egg with a baby! Imagine that! Luckily she's alone. The egg was quite big for such a little gecko, and she's sounds asleep, so I guess there weren't any difficulties. I'm going to put calcium on her crickets for awhile to make up the calcium lost.
