Name Inspiration

Hi All,

I really love Fantasy Books, especially the Dragonlance series. Even though I have not read a DL book in some time I still have close to 30 books at home in mint condition on my book shelf. When it comes time to name my dragon I intend to choose a name from one of my books. There are some really amazing names within the books which are about dragons so it should be fairly easy. What do the members of this forum use as inspiration to name their dragons? It’s something I was wondering since I have seen some very cool names here and I had a curiosity.

I really didnt have inspiration...I just waited to see what my beardie acted like...personality...plus, I wanted a cool bad*ace* name....so, after my beardie was being a clever little trouble maker I name him Bandit...haha...not really what you wanted im sure, but its all I got!

lol i picked mine from an 80's movie - Gizmo. because she was very cute, but a bit wierd! I have tonnes of nicknames tho from bandit, to dora (the explorer)

Took the name POGONA VITICEPS, Used POGO and named her Pogie

My little dude is a badass as well, so we named him Francois... Like Francois Dillinger, the french alter ego of Nick Twisp in Youth In Revolt.

...we thought he might be a 'she' for a while so we just went with Francie but he's just gotten big enough to tell correctly and it looks like two bulges SO. Back to Francois I guess, poor little gender confused izzard.

dont we first got told boy, then i thought girl, then a vet said boy they she laid eggs! Thats confusing! Good thing we never went back to that 'herp' vet!

In school i learned about greek mythology and learned that Apollo was a god of the sun and some other stuff but mainly sun
I figured since he pretty much loves his fake little sun (basking light) id name him Apollo. idk its a cool name i think

i started writing a book and one of the names i made up was "dedichius" (main character, lol pick anyway to pronounce cause i dont really know how to pronounce it either lol :wink: ) and i got my little guy around the same time so i figured hey, hes a male and dedichius is pretty B.A. sounding. so thats what i named him

Thank you! My husband and I have already decided that out next animal if a boy will be name Moses and he wants a German Sheppard to name him Ezekiel (Zeke for short) :mrgreen:

This is great. I love reading how many people here used names due to personal, emotional or even spiritual belief. Myself, I personally think that either way it's to each his own and whatever works for you is what's important. I can't wait to get My Beardie and choose a great name. Who know's I may even pick a name based on something completely different than what I thought I wanted. We have a family dog named Radar. I gave him that name because he hears everything. It's quite amazing because no matter how much noise we have in the living room he will always hear My Daughter in her room and let us know when she stirs in the night time. It's great. Perhaps the Beardie I pick will have some quirk or unique personality trait that lends to his naming.

We picked Alf because my husband son and I enjoy the dvd's of the old tv show.Gimli came from the Lord of the Rings......dwarfs are stout,short and both males and females have beards (according to Gimli the dwarf) hence the name,short stout and both have beards......LOLOLOLOL

I also loked to lord of the rings for my name. First I said lets name him gimili and then me and fiance were not a huge fan of it we used it for a little while, then we thought of Izzie and I didn't like that, Then we looked at more lord of the rings and remembered pippen one of the hobbits and we shortened it to pip. We really like Pip so thats what we have for him/her. Still not sure if its a boy or girl we keep flipping back and forth to time will only tell. My new little one I don't know what I am naming her yet if thats a her.
