My new UNNAMED bearded dragons!

Hi, I'm new, and my name is Natalie. I've just come to this site and have discovered alot that I've been doing wrong that the pet shop told me to do! I bought 2 bearded dragons 2 days ago, and i've been feeding them not enough as far as i'm aware (twice a day, 10-12 crickets), they are on calci sand instead of kitchen paper or something and they are housed together. I now know what i've been told is wrong so i plan to sort these things out straight away (appart from housing for the second due to money at the moment but that should be sorted in a few weeks) so i'm very disapointed that i've not been given the right info. On a more happy note, they are healthy and seem happy, a little skittish atm but i'm looking forward to being an acitve member of this site to make sure i can care fully for my bearded dragons. also i don't know their sex yet as they are apparentally 2-3 months old (i think they are younger though as they are about 4-4 1/2 inches in length from nose to tail) and so far are unnamed! i'm useless with names so if anyone would like to offer some names i would be happy to hear :D

both beardies together :

this is the biggest beardie:

this is the smaller one (its not visible in the photos but this one has the letters imu on its back in its markings so its tempting to call it that :p ):

and this is the smaller one getting a few crickets this morning with the largest behind:

Aww there tiny!! Good job getting rid of the calci-sand! thats one of the worst substrates you can use as it builds up like cement in their stomachs!

Welcome to the site....You will find TONS of info on here! :blob8:

hey, i sorted out their substrate last night and OMG! i never realised how impossible that stuff is to get rid of! once its in there it doesn't want to be removed! but eventually i got it all out. now they are on kitchen paper until i get them some tiles. right now i'm confused to how i give them a bath...or what other ways to give them water...does anyone have any advice?

fill the bath with warm water (sort of temperature you would do for a baby) up to their armpits. Good idea to put a old flannel in so they can grip it.

They get all their water mainly from their food. I only give baths every so often when one decides to do a bit of poo skating around the viv!

I bath Thil everyday, pooped everyday in the bath makes everything easier and he is never over hydrated, in my opinion everyday for like 15 mins give or take are great just helps keeping everything clean and helps them grow to like it faster.

i've chosen some names! the large one is Ben and the smaller one is gonna be jerry....which can be unisex if it turns out to be female...i'm just hoping the larger one really is male :D

thank you for the advice on how to bath them, although i think i might put them in my bathroom sink to start with as they are so tiny! but i'll deff use a flannel :)

I'm deff planning on starting this tomorrow, just need to get them to not try and run out of my hands all the time, normally they are fine after a few mins out of their viv but when trying to catch them without scaring them is impossible! so i avoid handleing them unless i need to like i did last night to change their substrate. i guess we all need to get used to each other at the moment and its going to take time, as they say, good things never come easy :)

Nat, Ben and Jerry

if you starting wrapping them in the blankets before bed it should get them more used to you, plus they will be to tired to really do any running and will get them used to your smell and such, worked great with Thil. You're doing a great job!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
