my new baby diego, question about his eye behavior

i have estimated that Diego is 6-8 weeks old because he is a little over 6 inches long. he seems to be very healthy and seems like he is trying to she because he will rub his head on the reptile carpet on the bottom. he will ofter wink one eye for 5 seconds then open it (he seems to favor winking the left eye) i also noticed that his eyes don't seem to be 100% open it seems like the top of his eye is a bit closed. could this winking be anything to be concerned about? i read somewhere that a sign of a healthy beardy is if they have alert eyes. any responses are very helpfull

general info on Diego
he is only 3 days old but he has eaten about 10 crickets and 5 meal works over the weekend. i have also caught him nibbling on the dandelions i have put in there for him. i have a heat lamp about 1.5 feet away from his basking rock which is at about 105-110 degrees. and a 10.0 uvb light on the other side of his 15 gallon tank. i am not using a tube uvb light, instead i have one of those twisty short(looks like those energy efficient bulbs) UVB light that seems to be working well for him.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It would be my guess that your light is probably the cause of your baby's eye problems. Coil lighting has been reported to cause eye damage in beardies. If you do a search in the Health forum and type in "Coil" or "Repti-Glo" you will find all sorts of posts regarding the different issues people have had with these lights.

The best 10.0 light to have is the Repti-Sun 10.0. Or an MVB (Mercury Vapor Bulb). These can be a little expensive however you don't have to replace them as often as the tube lights.

I'm sure that other members will respond to your post as well, and I'm sure that the concensus will be your light.

so how old is he? 3 days or 6-8 weeks?

thanks for the posts, i am thoroughly convinced that the coil light is terrible for beardys and i am going to replace it as soon as i get off work. it has only been on for 1 day so i don't think that he has been damaged by it, or at least i hope so. i had no clue that there was any difference between the coils and the tube lighting. thanks for informing me. i will update once he is settled with his new lighting

i just got a new light last night, the repti-sun 10.0 (Thanks Nero mom) and he seems to love it. he ate 7 crikets and 1 meal worm last night and 6 crickets this morning and his eyes seem to me much more perky. thanks for all the advise, it really helps

Excellent ! Those ReptiSuns are great for smaller enclosures, but the MVBs as nuromom suggested, are for 40 gallon and larger due to the high heat output
