I keep my male and female housed together and my female is now pregnant. I am thinking around 4 weeks, she is definitely showing the lumpyness. Today I went and purchased a 40 gallon terrarium and fixed it up for her, is this good for her lay bin? (I purchased the 40 gallon so if we are blessed with babies that have a nice play area) I put her in there for a few hours and she just didn't like it so I put her back in her home with her boyfriend and she is contempt. Can I keep her in there until she gets ready to start digging and then switch her to the new one? I have 50 lbs of sand in the new one and I am going to add some potting soil tomorrow as this is what I read to do. Once she lays her eggs how long until I transfer to the incubator? I know the process of being very careful with the transfer, but how soon after she lays? If I am at work when it happens it could be 8 hours later. I also haven't purchased the incubator, I called a livestock supplier today and all they carry are steel air incubators for chicken eggs. I will try a few places tomorrow, but which is the best incubator to buy? Any help on this process will help. I keep reading and reading and although I do get a bunch of info, I am still confused. Also does anyone know if the first time a beardie is pregnant could it be successful? Thanks for any help you can offer!

Well one thing after she lays her eggs you are keeping her away from the male right? its not good idea to keep a female in same tank with male all year round even after breeding, it stressed them out.

OK now for a lay bin, you can use any box or tank that is big, just make sure the sides are covered up so she can't see you. Put moist sand in the tank/box, make a hill up on one side so she can dig when ready.

Some BD's are picky mine i had to try 3 different lay bins till she layed her eggs.

Now if this is her first time laying eggs, they might not be good, but who knows they might be. And a hovabator is a good incubator for reptile eggs, not sure of a steel incubator. I know LLL reptile sales good hovabators.

Here is a pic of one http://www.gilberysgeckos.co.uk/images/care/Leopard Gecko/incubation/Hovabator.jpg

also you are not planing on keeping the babies on sand are you? thats a bad thing there. There is that chance the babies can eat that sand and hurt them. They like to lick every thing.

OH also after she lays the eggs, im not sure on how long you have till the eggs are no good in the tank. but when my female laid i took the eggs out right after she was done.

Thank you for the info, very helpful. Do you know what substrate I should use in the incubator? I purchased one today and I used half sand and half potting soil, but I don't think that is right, what do you suggest? Thanks again!

Hi as far as the substrate for the incubator most everyone uses vermeculite, or perilte. You can find this in the garden center at Walmart, Home Depot or Lowes or any nursery. Well I say that but I couldn't get it anywhere as they would not sell in here in town until Spring and I needed it back in January so I purchased hatchrite through the internet. Hope that helps :)

Do not make a tank change with a female beardie when she's pregnet. They happen to lay less eggs and lay them later. What you need to do is get a laying box and put it in the cage. Female beardies don't like laying their eggs in a cage they are not use to.

The hova bator 1602 is the model I use. My lay box is a rubbermaid storage container with a hole cut out for a heat lamp. I use sand and some potting soil. When my girls start digging in there tanks They go into the box. I always remove the eggs as soon as the female starts to bury them. The incubater is held at about 86 degrees and is takes about 50 to 60 days to hatch.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
