I have already posted about this before, but I though maybe I could get some more opinions/reply's in this area then in the health, but everyone that has responded to this in the health section was so helpful and thank you all very very much :) I just want to solve this problem my beardie is having and know if anyone has had these symptoms or this problem before. Sorry if this is a bit long, I'm just trying to get every little detail :(

First here is his background, I've had my bearded dragon Draco sense April 2010 I got him at the NH reptile expo, he has always been healthy and I always research everything to make sure he stays happy and healthy.I believe he is 10-11 months old, but I'm not 100% sure. He gets lots of attention and is usually out for a run for a half hour during the day(in the winter, usually for a hour in the summer because I live in a basement and it gets pretty cold down here) Then he is usually out under a blanket snuggling with me while I watch tv or I'm on the computer for 1 -2 hours a night. His Temps are usually 75-80 cold side, 88-90 Hot side then basking is 95-105 and the humidity is usually between 20%-30%. He Has a repti sun 10 18" that I just got for him in October, but I ordered another one this week because his appetite had decreased. He is also in a 75 Gallon tank. I have Reptile Carpet,Tiles, and non stick shelf liner down as his substrate. His Diet: Everyday he eats Collard Greens, Dandylion Greens all mixed with Adult Bearded Dragon pellets. I have been mixing in some romane as well because I heard it was a good source for water. He will also eat: Mustard Greens,Grapes,Strawberries(not for a while now so it doesn't turn the color of his stool)/blueberries, and Spaghetti Squash.
Feeders: Since he has had the pinworms his appetite toward crickets kinda went downhill so he usually will eat Phoenix/Reptiworms and Ive been giving him a few waxworms this week to boost his appetite.

Now onto the problem, sense the beginning of January I noticed a little bit of blood in his stool. At first I was told it was what he was eating because I fed him strawberries allot, so I stopped for a week and there was still red. I decided I was gonna take him to the vet the following week, it wasn't bad just had a red tint to it. He then decided he wanted to give up crickets for a few days so I went to buy him some phoenix worms because he loves those, but they where sold out and decided to get him a few super worms, he was 16 1/2 inches then so I knew he was proper length, he ate 4 that night. I woke up the next morning turned on his lights and went upstairs, I came back down 30 mins later and there was blood everywhere in his viv. I quickly rushed him to the emergency vet as it was a Saturday and there where the only ones open. They did not know allot about reptiles, but he did find out he had allot of pinworms. Everything else checked out good though He told me it could also be adenovirus but he said that was very unlikely as to he was so young and had good living conditions. He said he was perfectly healthy, active and was eating so all was good, the only other thing was he told me to boost his calcium up a little bit. Draco got a prescription of .08ml panacur to take once daily for 5 days then to repeat 2 weeks later.

A week or so passed and it just seemed to get worse and worse. I took him to our local reptile vet and they had told us the same. Everything checked out good there as well. He Then got a .2ml of panacur to boost it up to get rid of the worms. It seemed to calm it for a little bit, but then i noticed something when he went one day that i didn't see before. The blood wasn't actually in his stool, but in the watery liquid he expels after he goes. I took him back to the reptile vet a week later and told them what I had saw. They debugged it as a Urinary track infection and it was probole because of the worms as well. They also said it could be something called Calcification (Sp?) but it wouldn't show up in a x-ray very well. So now he is on .2 Sulftrim twice daily for 10 days. He didn't mind the panacur, but hates the taste of this one and I have to chase him everywhere for him to take it. It's a little hard on his stomach and I was giving him bene-bac because he didn't want to eat, I now ordered him some Acidophiliz+ along with his new reptisun hoping he would want to eat more and start to eat his salads again too.

Now the blood has decressed, but im still seeing it dribble out after he goes, somedays there will be none others it will be everywhere. Im just so at a loss and needed some help maybe discussing what is wrong with me little guy :( He is still supper active, and i acctually got him to eat a few wax worms and phoenix worms today, along with some squash baby food. The only differance now is he has been franticly glass dancing and black bearding from taking his medicine. He went twice today, and I noticed a few dribbles of blood in the first and allot in the second.
Ill link a video of him at the bottom.

Other things I think could be causing it:
-Liver = The vet said that is was very unlikely though as he was still so active and the poo is not green.
-Dehydration = I give him a bath 2-3 times a week plus water from a eyedroper everyday and the water in the baby food. The only concern is I use a space heater because I'm in a basement, his temps are fine, but it gets a little dry down here, but still I make sure he has plenty of water.
-Iron Deficiency = I'm not sure about this one, this is one I read about online in bigger lizards like monitors where it would show blood as well.
- Straining when he goes = I do notice that when he goes his belly muscles get very very tense, is there a food or something I could give him kinda like a stool softener?

This was him last Tuesday, I think he has been seeing his reflection, but as you can see he is still very active, but I just posted this so people could see how he acts and his condition he is in.

Thank you all for reading this very long post, I tried to make it as detailed as possible so people can see what is going on, He is my first beardie and my first reptile on my own and I love him to death and will do anything for him. I just want to make him better :( Any tips, ideas or details on what it could be or how to help him would be greatly loved! I'm just at a loss and not sure on how to help my poor little guy. Thank you all again!

Hello,

I am sorry he is having such an ordeal!
Is he finished with the meds yet?

I think at this point, he needs to have a blood test. That would test for kidney & liver trouble. The stool doesn't necessarily have to be green for him to be having liver trouble. He could have some kidney problems which could be causing some blood.
I agree, Adenovirus could come into play, but not at his age & it wouldn't be the primary cause of this.
What is your supplementation of calcium like?
What type of UVB are you using? A tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
Are his urates hard or soft?
His diet sounds great, by the way.

Thank you all for your bumps and thank you again Drache613 for the help,
He currently has the Repti-Sun 10 18" tube and another one is on the way in case this one has just lost it's uv, but I just had got it in the beginning of October.
He was getting Flucker's Calcium with Vitamin D3 4 times a week, but the vet told me to increase his calcium intake a little so now he gets it 5 times a week, except the last week because he has been finicky on eatting with this medication, I gave him ben-bac, but decided to order some Acidophiliz+ that still hasn't come yet. I mixed his calcium with some squash baby food this week.
He also gets Rep-Cal Herptivite with beta carotene twice a week, but I have to mix it in water because he will not eat it off of his feeders, he really does not like the tastes.
His urates have looked pretty good, the white part it's been small, but the stool it's self has been pretty small. But I think it's because he hasn't been eating much. I can usually get a few wax worms and phoenix worms into him, along with some squash baby food so he gets his calcium. But overall the stool has been looking allot better then before he got treated for the pinworms, it's just the liquid and blood that has come out afterword.
O He also just finished his ten days on the Sulfatrim tonight, but I came home today to blood spots everywhere again today. I'm gonna try to see if I can squeeze a blood test in this week , if they can't I might just take him back to the E-Vet and see if they can do one for me.

If it does end up being Draco's kidney's is there anything they could do for him, like a medication he just has to take everyday? :(
My dog Ive had since I was 11 suddenly came down with a seizure condition when he was 5, he could barley walk after two, we though we where going to have to take him to the vet to be put down, I was heartbroken. But they gave him a medication he just takes with his food everyday and hes been a perfectly normal dog and hes now 11. after that I always have hope, and I am giving Draco all of my hope right now

I called the vets again today and he has a appointment on Monday to get a X-Ray and a blood test, I'm just hopping everything comes back good and we can finally solve his little problem. He got off his medication today, but still only got him to eat 3 wax worms and five Phoenix worms. I also gave him some squash baby food. I wish his Acidophiliz+ and new uv would come! :angry5:

Hello,

If it does turn out to be kidney troubles, then it depends on how bad it is as to whether or not he will need a lifetime medication. If he has gout then yes, he will need a daily medication to help his kidneys function more optimally.
I would love to see a copy of the blood tests when you do get them in, if that is alright.
How is he doing today, did he eat anything for you?
Yes, that is correct. If he is not eating much then, his stool will be relatively small. As long as the urates are still there, then, he is or should be pretty well hydrated. You mentioned that the urates are fine, & no blood is actually "in" the urates? Perhaps his kidneys are fine, & his GI tract is still sensitive from having parasites that it is irritated.

Let us know how he is doing.
Great he is all done with his meds for now!

He is doing ok today, hes resting at the moment, he had a little dia on his second stool today, but I think it was the baby food. He ate 5 Phoenix worms and 3 wax worms, with some squash baby food I gave him some ben-bac tonight so hopefully that boost his apatite for tomorrow. I don't think I have seen any blood in his urate part, it usually comes out white, it was little today, but I gave him some water from a dropper and baby food for some hydration and I'm gonna give him a bath tomorrow to help. I usually mostly see the blood when he is all done then it will come out or tward the end of his movement.
That would be no problem at all, I can scan it in easily for you to see :)
Ive had a fellow member messaging me about hookworms and how they usually are not seen on a fecal exam, would they cause allot of blood?
Thank you again

Hello,

Yes, hookworms can cause a good amount of GI tract irritation & damage if the levels are high enough.
They are usually detected in fecal smears, but not always in fecal floats.
That is good to hear that the blood is not mixed in with the urate, that would most likely indicate a kidney problem. Since it is outside of the urates, that leads me to believe he is having some problems with irritation in the GI tract.
Are you giving him any probiotics right now?

I gave him a little ben bac yesterday, and ordered some Acidophiliz+ last Monday, that I'm still waiting for in the mail. :( It was shipped Wednesday, so hopefully it comes tomorrow morning. His movement actually looked really good today, It only had 2 spots of blood, but then I didn't have to chase him to give him his medicine so I think he hasn't been as stressed out lately. If he gets put on another medicine, I'm gonna mix it with baby food, or see if I can get something to eject his medicine into his feeders, it just seems to really stress him out.

Another thing I noticed today is our Reptile store sells Reptaid (Not the fluckers one) and Ive been reading allot of good about that on this site so I might try that out if he doesn't get another medication to take, O try it afterward if he does.

I also got another problem, I started feeding him wax worms last week because he wouldn't eat anything. Well now he won't even look at his phoenix worms, and won't eat anything but if I give him wax worms, I know there kinda like candy so I usually only feed him 3-4 a day. I guess he will eat his phoenix worms again if he gets hungry enough.
Thank you Drache613, I really appreciate all of your help!

O and thank you discojan,he is quite the character :D
I promise to post cute pictures of him when he is better and spring comes so I can take him out for some real uv.

I had to stop with the wax worms because my beardie got too excited for them. i usually feed about 4 a week otherwise she'd ignore her other food. I feel guilty not giving her them as she seems to love them sooooooo much!!!

hehe yea hes been really bad since I introduced them, he will snub everything else I will give him. We where laughing at how he would turn his head to all his veggies, and reptiworms/Phonix worms ,but bring out the wax worms he wants them all. I guess I should just keep the Phoenix worms in there in a cup and he will get hungry eventually.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
