My first dragon: 2 Chainz!

Hello everyone,

My name is Payton and I got a bearded dragon about 2 weeks ago and I wanted to show everyone. I named him 2 Chainz (yes like the rapper). I have an inside joke with my friends and decided to name my awesome dragon that. I did not sex him yet because he is still young (shooting for a boy). If he turns into being a she, I will rename him Rhionce. I got him at 7 weeks old and he is now 9 weeks. He was around 7 1/2 inches and today he is pushing across the 9 inch mark. He has grown a lot in the 2 weeks I have had him. He is such a photogenic dragon and he is very spoiled. He is always happy and laid back. I currently feed him crickets and collard greens. I will be breeding and feeding him silkworms here shortly. I wanted to have a Dubia Roach colony, but I live in Florida and it is illegal to have or buy dubia roaches due to the fact of our warm climate if some were to escape, they could easily survive and breed. We all know how easy it is to get a roach colony of 1000... Here are some pictures of him! Enjoy!

Ahaha, I somehow feel like that's a great name for him. xD Very funny.
I love the picture with him and the dog. Wish my dog was that laid back about PAco. :\

He is an awesome dragon. But my dog is 18 years old. I have had him since I was about a year old. But I honestly do not think my dog knew 2 Chainz was on him. Lol.

Here is an update of him. I am up in Michigan on vacation and my girlfriend is watching him and sent me these pictures. This is him during his first shed and I am missing it D: LOL. We had a breeder look at some pictures of the little guy and asked how big he was. He is telling us that it is nearly impossible for a dragon to be 10 weeks old and 10 inches long. He told us he may be around the 4 month mark. This does make sense. People post pictures of there little ones at 10 weeks old and are like 7 to 8 inches. So the pet store I got him from must have ben unsure how old he was... But they bred him? I may have gotten an employee who just didn't specialize in dragons? But here he is!

I don't think he's 4 months old yet, he's a bit small for that, but maybe 3, either way, you'll know how old he is when he stops growing length wise, that normally means he'll be almost 2 yrs old. He's a big dragons for his age, either way, and it's very difficult to judge how old they are when they're small, they just can surprise you with their growth. I have a friend in Florida that states you can't get dubia roaches but you can buy other types. I'll see if I can find the link she sent me of the types you can buy for your baby. Dubia were not included.

I loved the pics and it's cute that he likes the dragon in the mirror. Glad your girlfriend is take such good care of him, love his colours.

Thanks for your input. He is around 3 to 4 months. I am saying 13 weeks maybe. It is just nice to know so we can have a birthday for the little guy :p But I am going to be breeding silkworms for him. The other roach is called a discoid roach by the way. I did research that! My girlfriend is going to get one as well. She actually inspired me to get one. Just worked out I got one before she did :p

That's the roach I was thinking of. Not sure if as good as dubia, but silkworms are better than both combined, they're full of calcium and lots of great things and so good for beardies. And you have the weather to raise them well, too.

Yeahh. I did a lot of research on them and not a lot of people sell them (affordably) nor have good how-to videos. So I am going to try and change that and make it affordable for people and people get can well informed, the right way... :p I was thinking about a monthly program. Pay so much per month and it will help me get food and what not and you get so many silkworms per month. Just an idea.

It's a good idea. Mulberry Farms has the best info, they've been in business for many years and have a lot of info on silkworms and how to care for them. The biggest thing is that they never get wet, as they'll die right away, so no humidity in what you raise them in. And mulberry leaves are the best food but you can get chow, as that's all they eat. My crew won't eat them much & I can't get them locally, have to drive quite a ways to get some, and they're hard to keep here, the weather isn't warm enough. So good luck, if you get them raised right, you'll have a constant supply. They reach maturity in 30 days and when the male/female mate, she can lay over 300 purple (fertilized) eggs at one time. So it's great if you're doing well with them!

Yeahh. They do have information, but the website is alllll over the place. I am really into the quick and easy information that is organized. When I go to order something there (which is pricey) I have to go through a few pages to order a product on there website, which is not needed. I found a good website that sells silkworm chow that is a little cheaper. I need to get my hands on the recipe, which I doubt will happen. It is top secret. Probably patented.

What beautiful colours he has after his shed! And don't you love how they sleep (if I can't see anyone, then they can't see me, so it's safe to sleep  ). Such cute pictures!

Hi everyone,

I have some pretty sad news. When I got back to Florida from Michigan my girlfriend and I were taking him to the car. He jumped out of my girlfriends hand and ran under a parked car. We looked under the car he ran under and he was not there. We checked every wheel and every part under the car just in case he jumped up inside somewhere. We searched for hours and could not find him. It soon became dark and we said that wherever he is he will be sleeping since it is dark out. My girlfriend started to look again in the morning and she could not find him anywhere. She had to go to class at 2 PM and when she came back around 5 PM she finally found him. He was really beat up. His eye was missing and we was very weak. We came to a conclusion that he didn't get hit by a car, or a bike, or even stepped on. His head wasn't smushed or anything. We then looked for bite marks. Nothing. He has no scars on his body except his eye. We think he was running through bushes and his eye got snagged on something. We put him in his cage and under his light and gave him some water. My girlfriend called me at work and was very scared and didn't know what to do. We both didn't have any money to go to an emergency vet so we decided to see how he does and we will take him as soon as possible in the morning. We thought he was doing well because he was reacting to us petting him. He even pooped! But around 12 AM this morning he took one deep breathe and never breathed again :( We are both really upset and we are about to go burry him. We tried everything we could have. We are happy that we at least found him and gave him warmth and wrapped him in his blanket before he passed away, instead of out somewhere else and all alone. But today we are going to go look around for another baby. We will always remember our little 2 Chainz!

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear what happened, they're so fast & can get away so fast, too. RIP 2 Chainz, you will always be remembered and you'll always be in our hearts. You're over the Rainbow Bridge with my girls, Sweetie, Issy, Angel and Loish and they'll take care of you now, sweet little one.

I'm glad you're getting another baby, won't replace 2 Chainz but at least you'll have a baby to love. Best not to take them outside unless they're in a cardboard box they can't get out of. If you need to move a beardie try what I do. I have a gym bag with a shoebox inside, I wrap my guys in a blanket and move them like that with the gym bag zipped up, then they can't get away. Even my adults are fast when they want to be.

Good luck getting your new baby, let me know, you can just put him/her on this thread and change the Subject, then they're both in the same place.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
