My First Beardie ~ Meet Serafina

i ordered a mega ray, and after a week of waiting for it to arrive, we called them, and they completly forgot about my order. and so i asked for a refund.
they're not too good in my books right now, but if i did decide to order another one, i'd call and order, and process it over the phone to make sure they get my order.
if it says backorder, it may be awhile, but since you have a solar glo now, theres no need to rush.

oh and dont worry about a beardie being too fat, they know when to stop.
in my opinion, the fatter they are, the healthier.

Wow this dragon can really eat! :lol:

Yesterday she ate pretty well but today she really packed away the crickets. She weighed in today at 178 grams so that's up from her last weigh in at the shelter on 12/27 which was 140 grams
Today's poop was more normal looking, with the urates being a little solid. I gave her her second bath today (she didn't have one yesterday) she's not too thrilled with the whole bath routine, but I figure she'll get used to it.
I'm hoping my order of phoenix worms will arrive today so I can see how she likes them tomorrow.

All in all she's doing quite well.

I'm narrowing down a list of names and hope to have one picked out by tomorrow.

Update on the new Dragon

We settled on a name, we are calling her "Serafina". Her full name is Her Majesty Serafina Kala Zia

She's settling in nicely. Seems quite laid back, eats well and is starting to get used to baths.

Holy Moly I just weighed Serafina after her bath today and she's up to 210grams! Poor thing must have been starving at the shelter where they were only giving them a few feeders 2 x per week.

I also just noticed that she has one totally clear toe nail.

Serafina moved into her new palace today 4' x 2' x 2'. She was a little stressed this morning but that quickly wore off by this afternoon. She has explored every nook and cranny and tried out all the "furniture".

My next project is to make a fake rock wall for the back and a nice basking platform with 2 or 3 levels and a better cave/hide area.



I'm still playing with the lighting. I may need a lower watt basking bulb, this thing holds heat a lot better than the narrow 36"L tank she was in before. When I get the lower watt bulb I can lower the MVB (in the deep dome fixture on top) a bit more. There is a 9" square hole on top with 1/4" hardware cloth covering it.

She's grown from just under 15" to 16" and gained 108 grams since we brought her home from the shelter 1 mo ago.

She just finished a full shed. She's showing some unusual coloring. When she's her darkest coloring she is an olive green color with dusky purple side bars, she's showing a bit of orange on her beard and by her ears as well. At first I thought it was the MVB light that was making her look green but now that she's shed, she looks green out of the enclosure as well.

Nice job on the enclosure!
I thought I might mention that you want your MVB to be completely level not tilted.
Or it may burn out prematurely.
Also was just wondering how far is the basking spot from the MVB?
It may just be the angle of the picture.......so forgive me I'm not trying to critize just making sure that you are the recommended 12 to 18 inches from basking spot. :wink:

The MVB is level the camera wasn't ;-) I tried to straighten the picture in photoshop so everything is a little off-kilter. I'll have to get some better shots tomorrow.

The basking spot is about 19" currently. I'm getting a lower watt bulb for the hot side tomorrow then I'll be able to move the MVB down a couple more inches.

It was a pain in the arse to get that thing in the closet, but I really like that I can close those accordian doors at night to help retain the heat. I also don't have to worry about the cats pestering her while we are asleep.

Updating Serafina's thread with some new pictures

Her 100w Megaray arrived today! I'ts getting her basking spot up around 107-108 degrees directly under it and her cool side stays around 80-83 which is good because the cool side temps had been slowly creeping up with the soloar glo.

I moved the megaray into the lamp cage inside the enclosure and created a new basking platform for her. It is exactly 12.25" from the megaray. I can always lower it a bit too if necessary. It could be my imagination but she seemed a bit perkier today after I switched out the bulb. At least I have the solar glo as a backup in case anything happens to the megaray.

I'll have to post updated pictures of her enclosure. I still want to work on some fake rock for her but that will have to wait until after we finish prepping our corporate taxes ... oh the joys of being self-employed.
