the info that @KarrieRee gave is actually correct. temps of 80°F at night are for ill dragons to help promote their immune system. other than that they need it dark with cool temps at night as long as it does not drop below 65°F.They are from the desert. They love high temps. You have to teach them to bask. At Nighy for a 7 month old it has to stay above 80 degrees F on the cool side. Please don't give wrong info.
dragons do not need to be taught to bask any more than humans need to be taught to breathe. if the conditions are correct, they will go to the area they need to be in
babies need basking temps from 100°-105°F during the day. as sub-adult/adult they like it cooler, as mentioned.
for the heat basking spot, light placement is based on temperature, not distance as long as they can't jump up and touch the bulb. for uvb basking, the placement of 6-8 inches would be for a T8 bulb, which must always be inside the enclosure. if you have a T5, it should be 12-15 inches if inside the enclosure, or 8-10 inches if placed on top of the screen, but only if it is a wide hole screen. if it is a fine mesh, the uvb should always be inside of the enclosure.
