Were i live it is hard to find crickets to buy, so i mostly have been feeding my lil guy veggies..like collards. is this bad.... when we ocaisionally do go an hour away to a larger town we do buy him crickets.... will feeding him mostly greens hurt his growth? i do sprinkle them with calcium.

You have to feed him a lot of proteine (insects) for proper growth.

Actually online is cheaper place to go to buy crickets or other insects.

Or you can breed your own insects then you don't have to buy them again.

They keep for a long time in a 25gallon rubbermaid w/ some cricket chow i throw in a sliced potatoe once a week.
also i think if your beardie is 15" or larger they can have super worms which are easier to keep.
yOu definately need to feed them live feeders.

ok thanks, i will def, try and buy some with my first paycheck, what exactly do i need to do to keep them alive? and how long can i keep them alive? sorry for all the questions, just bugs arnt my thing, and i find it hard to keep plants alive and fish (but then i again i did buy my fish at the bait shop... that may of been the reason) , but everything else i do perfectly fine with... i call it my black thumb.

My crickets will live like a month or two.....supers 3-4 months just keep adding potatoe n chow n clean out often.I order from Mikes Pemium Crickets. They also have like a cricket drink u can use instead of potatoe

How long is your beardie? If he is at least 16 inches long, you should try superworms. I had a terrible time keeping crickets alive, they stunk, had too many escapees, etc. So I tried superworms and Izzy loves them! So do I. They are much easier to keep, stay alive for months, easier to handle, way cheaper, cleaner and all around a better choice for me. Izzy gained a bunch of weight on them though, so I had to ration him a little. But that turned into a positive as well because he started to eat more veggies then, when before he rarely touched them. Izzy is 16 months old and eats 5-10 supers a day. You dust them the same way you do crickets. I get 100 at the local pet store for $3.99.

my beardie is maybe 8 in long... are superworms healthy, ive heard some people think that they arnt...

as a last ditch effort in between shipments i used freezedried crickets and mealworms as kinda salad toppers i also order grasshoppers from time to time for a special treat. im trying to start up a dubia colony. you should try dubias once your dragon is big enough. worms are good and all but my guy prefers things that jump away from him

Hes not quite ready for them yet.....butterwoms are good u just put those in the refrig...they r not cheap though.
As for super being s staple Malibu has been eating them for about 1 1/2 years....i like to do a variaty so i switch it around very couple months from crickets to supers to butters.Pheonix worms are just to small n she will eat 3 containers in one sitting.Horne worms are a great treat but hard to find.

I'm actually in the process of putting in an order through great lakes hornworms for a 1000 1/2" to 3/4" supers for my smallest beardie, as I cannot keep crickets alive for more than 2 weeks and I live in an apartment and don't want to set up a roach colony unless I own the place.

Thanks for the info on hornworm site,I added it to my favs for easy access.Malibu loves hornworms
I use them as atreat mostly but if i can hatch some out that would be pretty awsum.I see they sell all that u need to do this....could be very interesting!Only a beardie lover could get excited about hatching Green Worms that look like they are straight out of Alice n Wonderland! :)

My beardie is 7 months old and the breeder I got him from only gives her dragons crickets 2-3 times a week. As a result, my beardie is smaller than most that I have seen but he is healthy and active. I'm giving him live feeders almost everyday now and he is growing fast.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
