Just wondering if anyone else has a beardie with a missing limb that has an exposed bone fragment? She is just a baby but I was wondering when she would be old enough to get it removed if it has too. She moves around fine and eats everything you put out for her. she has a 1/4 of the rear leg left however there is about an 1/8th of an inch of what i think is bone exposed. My worry is that she'll bump it and get an infection but the vivs are extreamly clean the main concern is should i have a vet remove the bone or keep it as is. this happend about two and a half weeks ago and its healed. I put some wound aid on it just clean it when she came home. Shes only 9 1/2 weeks though and still growing. any suggestion as to what to do? I have seen other beardies on here with the missing limbs but it looks like a clean cut where hers really isnt. any help would be greatful.
thanks

thanks for the bump. it looks like the skin has healed over the bone but you can still tell there is a little piece of thigh bone sticking out. she'll let me touch it and put the wound aid antiseptic on it and she gets around like its not bothering her but I would still like know if I should get it removed and when and how much it may roughly cost. like I said shes only a baby almost 10 weeks old. cute as can be but I just want to make sure that this wont hurt her in the future.
thanks

Have you talked to her vet about it yet? That is a problem I have never seen here before. :dontknow: Hopefully someone has an answer.
How did she get injured? Did you tend the damage yourself? Just curious. I'm not sure I could tend such a serious injury. Good luck with her. It's great that she is getting around and lets you treat it.

Hello,

I would like to know also, how the injury occurred? Has it healed correctly or is it crooked?
Pictures would be helpful, definitely. You should get her to the vet for analysis though, because it may not completely heal up & cover the bone which you don't want her bone exposed for prolonged periods of time which will leave her very open for infection.
Just try to keep it clean & use antibiotic ointment on it for now until you can get her to the vets.

It happened before I got her. It was a nip that took most of the leg off. My nearest vet is hudson and he is a specialist. I have to wait for him to get back in tomorrow to set up an appointment. He was on Vacation for easter. Anyways i'll try to get the pictures up today. Any idea how much it will take for an operation? shes just a baby so would they even bother?
thanks

I think I'm going to take her to the Vet either way. That way they can cut off the extra bone and sew it up atleast it wont bother her in the future. But can anyone see these pictures?

OH, poor little thing. She/he should to fine after it gets healed. I agree, take her/him to a vet just to make sure the leg isn't infected

I would get her to a vet. That swollen part in the pic could be an infection. I lost a baby 2 seasons ago. The baby seemed like it was healing then in the space of an hour she got lethargic and passed before I could even get her to a vet.

You need to get her to a vet before that gets infected. it doesn't matter how clean you keep the cage she will still get poo on herself and that can easily cause an infection. better safe than sorry.

She has an appointment in Laconia on Monday. So hopefully they can take care of it that day.

Hello,

Oh that looks like it probably hurts. Let us know how things go at the vets. It should be fairly easy to get taken care of, but it should be taken off to avoid infection & future complications.
She is a cutie pie. :D

ok here is the update! shes all better! the hanging part wasnt connected to the theamur(sp?) bone and they were able to snip it right off very clean with no blood! they sent her home with some anti Bs and they loved her. she was such a good dragon and clung on to hands. she wouldnt leave one person once she was there. she wasnt stressed and i think she enjoyed it attention. she is way tiny 9gr and 6 1/2 inches!! If only she would eat alot more. but the vet said she was healthy and looked good just that she may have had a slow start and will catch up. on the way home she was very active and wanted out of the carrier and she then sat in my hands and went up my arm and sat on my shoulder thee entire ride home. but the vet was happy that it was an easy fix. and normally i dont like vets but this vet i really liked and she like BDs as well and was telling trav and I that she almost bought one the other day lol. but Lady is happy, healthy, and small unfortunately I hope she gets a growth spurt at some point. but shes healthy thats the main thing now!
