Meat?????

I got this off the Dr. Foster's and Smith care sheet for bearded dragons. Am I reading this correctly??? Chopped meat??? This is the first time I've seen mention of chopped meat for dragons?

"Bearded Dragons are omnivorous so they need a balanced diet of meat and vegetable matter. Feed items such as chopped meat, crickets, pinky mice, earthworms, leafy greens, and squash. Always provide fresh water."

And earthworms seem to be a gray area? I've heard people say absolutely not and some say feed them. So who gets to eat the ground round tonight, gang, me or Merlin?

I don't, but I have heard of people feeding their beardies boiled chopped up chicken before.
I would not feed my beardies pinkies or earthworms.
Pinkies are to high in fat an earthworms aren't much more that water with a little protein.

I say eat the ground round and keep giving your beardies the bugs.

I agree with Barbara. I would only feed chopped meat in an emergency if live feeders were not available.

I went on the beautiful dragon :study: site and they have chopped meat rated as questionable. I'm glad. If I had to feed him chopped meat, he might start demanding prime rib and I really can't afford that. Makes the price of crickets look better that's for sure.

Fallencomrade2008 in an emergency hard boiled egg would be okay, but keep in mind that it is very high in fat. And the emergency maynot be that you just can't get any feeders...but what if you also didn't have any electricity? You wouldn't beable to boil the egg.

Danorepliz I have used babyfood on many ocassions. I agree with you I'd use baby food over actual chopped meat. When Zak-n-Wheezie first hatched I fed them babyfood with suppliments until they were strong enough to hold up their top heavy heads. I actually just give it to my beardies every once in awhile as a treat. The babyfood applesauce is good to keep on hand for beardies that are having trouble pooping.
It is also something good to have in your beardie disaster kits.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
