Male or Female??

Hi all,

Just got my beardie about two weeks ago. No idea if it is a male or a female. I posted some pics below if anyone has any knowledge on how to tell. I’ve been too scared to lift the tail in the back because I don’t want to scare him/her. It’s not to fond of being picked up and handled yet. Thanks for the help!!

Bit hard to tell from those pics and because of the markings it will be hard to pick out any pores either. Try and get a shot of your beardies like this:

Ok I will try. He/ she doesn’t like to be handled all that much yet. I was afraid it may freak out if I try to lift the tail at the base lol. Thank you!!!!

I believe your beardie is a female, though the photo you took kind of makes it hard to tell. In case you were wondering, in order to figure out the gender of your bearded dragon you must slowly lift its tail and look underneath it. If you see two bumps (hemipenal bulges) then the dragon is male; however, if you see only one bump the dragon is female.

No real visible signs of hemipene bulges at the moment but your dragon is still young. At this point it looks female. The other way to narrow it down is to shine bright torch light through the tail. If its male you will see two distinct hemipenes running up the tail.

Same I think your beardie is female, but it's so young that it is a little difficult to tell.

Any guesses on her age? They didn’t tell us. My husband was trying to go by measuring her and comparing it to a chart online. That put her at around 3 months.

From what I can see in that pic that looks about right. The next three months will probably be a big shock to you as she will expand visibly week by week. My youngster was 8" when he came home on 3rd Jan. Measured him this morning and he's a smidge off 11" now
