Our berdie, named Rexy is only one years old so she's small. Only about 12" long from nose to tail. I adopted her about six months ago from a home where she wasn't fed properly. So she's just not growing to be very healthy and strong and now she goes and disappears on us. In the past when ever I let her out, she's always stayed close by and I could always find her, but this time she's just gone! We've looked everywhere I can think of. We have wood floors and our house is raised so the floors are very cold all the time. I checked the drapes and the computer but nothing. Tonight I'm going to buy some chicken and put it out and see if she comes to get it. I read that someone did that and it worked. Eventually she'll need to come out and eat.

Try the light idea trust me it really works. Take a rock put it on the floor and hang a light over top of it. I did this when my uro got loose and when I got up to go the the bathroom there he was sleeping on the rock under the light. Oh and I think cooking the chicken in the house is a better way of doing it. Then the smell fills the house. Oh and do you have any power bars around the house? If so the beardie may be there. I have found one of my beardies when he got out sleeping on the power bar that powers my computer.

We don't have power bars, but I'll try the light and rock idea today and I'll cook chicken tonight. This is going to kill me though becuause I don't eat meat and I especially hate the smell of chicken. But I need to find our little girl, so we'll do whatever it takes. I'll write more tomorrow. Thanks for the great tips. I just love this website! So many nice people who really care.
i have another way. take a bowl of what he likes and sprinkle flour around it so if he comes out to eat it you'll know where he went by following the white footprints

Still searching, no luck. Yes, we have taken many, many hours and looked in every room, went as far as re-arranging EVERYTHING, taking everything out of the closets and looking into everything, then putting it all back. Even took every piece of clothing and searched, then refolded them. The house is so clean, it's scary! These are our babies, so we have not taken this very lightly. The good news is, no bad smells, so he must be alive.

We've always let our beardies out, never thinking they'd get lost, because I always kept an eye on them. Now, the long colored string is a great idea and when we find Skitz, he's getting a BRIGHT PINK ONE. lol The female, well, since Skitz has been gone, she hardly eats. She may not have loved the little guy, but she liked him enough to do the dragon dance.

Still keeping the house warm. I'm thinking the electric bill has gone up 150.00 in the past 1.5 weeks. Thanks for all of the replies. The feedback is amazing and I'm going out to the garage to make him a HOT PINK LEASH.

Yes I bought Zinger a reptile leash then tied a rainbow coloured string on the end of it!

Have you found him yet?!

Try leaving heating pads, hot water bottles, and dishes of food all over the place. I lost my little Nixon OUTSIDE for 3 weeks in sub zero temps and we found him alive. Good luck I'm sure things will turn out ok!

Still no Skitz, have not lost hope.

I LOVE THIS IDEA - placing a light and a rock in the middle of the room. Sprinkling some flour on the floor for the evidence of his departure is a good one too. I've been cooking chicken for the past 5 days and no luck. Think I'll try bbq chicken tonight. Sorta getting sick of eating chicken meat myself. LOL  But, if the smell of BBQ chicken don't make him come out, then he must not like chicken.

Heat lights on the floor are a good idea. Maybe put a few different ones out, and the UV light if you can? Flour works great as well.

Can you put the viv on the floor as well? Leave jars with his favorite food out, and veggies in a low dish. You can do this in multiple rooms.

Our baby dragon escaped a month or so ago - climbed out of his tank while we were at work. Thankfully he came back and was hanging out in the light under his tank (it's a few inches off the ground). He now has a top, and I catch him hanging upside down on it every now and then. I have no idea how he gets up there!

I know this may sound odd, but have you looked up? Some dragons (including mine) like to climb. One member found hers hanging out on TOP of the curtains! He was huge and still had made it all the way up! He fell asleep up there and was quite happy.

We let Bogie have the run of the house. We keep an eye out and an ear. His naile click, click, click on the tile and wood floors. So far every time he has hidden we have found him. Have you looked around the computer wires? They stay slightly warm and are a nice spot for a dragon nap. The hardest place to spot Bogie was Katherine's dollhouse. It is full of dolls and little ponies. He looked like E.T. in the closet of stuffed toys. Check spots like that. They can blend in in odd places.
Good luck. We'll keep the little guy in our prayers.

Sandy and Katherine

Skitz, well he loves to climb and he thinks he's an Eagle and likes to fly, or THINKS he's flying [we know he's gliding, but when I tell him he's not an eagle, I get the stink-eye  ] I'm getting the ladder now to look up in all the high spots again. After that, I'm going back into the kitchen and removing EVERY DISH, PAN and FOOD Product. LOL

I had a tank once where it had no top and my beardie would climb up to the rim of the tank and sit on it. He would never come down or come out he would simply sit on the rim of his tank allot. He would even sleep there if I let him. In fact if I took him down before going to bed if I got up in the morning he would be up on the rim again sleeping.

Aww! This little one just climbs right out. My older dragon never gets out, nor even tries to. The little one was good, then one day just escaped. I was not thrilled, I hate having lids on cages!

Could try a room by room search closing the door behind you. also some strategically placed radios tv's ect could make him loot for a quiet place to hide. Could also leave some fruit and salad out for him. with the flour around it.

I have another suggestion for you..... look behind and under your couch and living room chairs with a flashlight, and if you don't see him, try carefully flipping them over and having a look at the bottom of them. Look under the couch and chair cushions too.

A friend of mine's beardie did a disappearing act on her, and she looked for him for days with no luck. As it turned out there was a large tear in the fabric covering the bottom of her couch, and he had climbed up inside of it and gone to sleep! Also check the fabric covering the box spring on the bottom of your bed....I once had a kitten that got up inside of there and hid as well.

Just a couple more suggestions......

:blob8: SKITZ IS BACK! :blob8:

5 minutes ago, I was in my kitchen, preparing a bowl a of cereal and singing, when I turned around to get the milk and SKITZ was in the middle of the floor ... looking up at me. I screamed! Out of FEAR and HAPPINESS! I waas not expecting to see anything there. I picked him up and he was looking at me with the expression, "What! I didn't know I was lost. I'm a big lizard now. I can take care of myself! Stop mushing over me!" Now, he's eating and I'm so happy!

Location: Under the Refrigerator. We did use a flashligh there the first night he was M.I.A, but he was in stealth mode at the time. Ironic though, I did invite the MIL over last night .. and he never came out. However, he did come out the next day. Sooo, if SKITZ gets to big for his tail again .. I'll bring her over.

Thanks for all of the informative feedback.

Hooray!!!!!! :blob8: :blob5: :blob8:

See, the MIL visit worked! She probably didn't stay long enough last night for him to venture out from underneath the fridge.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
